Your finale, when you take your last bows, burn yourself at the stake, fire subsides, you're gone. Better yet for that bizarre
"feel", don't vanish, leave a charred burnt (smoldering even better) "remains" of yourself! And leave it at that! No resolution... Not for the faint hearted..... :firedevil: If you are really brave, (or crazy).... have it look like an escape gone wrong.... The imagery is one where, your burnt blackened remains have "doubled up" with the hands and feet still tied at the stake while the flames are still engulfing you..... The show ends with everyone seemingly (or really) panicked... [Remember Blaine on "Last Call"?] At your own risk, try it...... Jeff Macbride has actually done the "clean" version where he escapes and appears elsewhere. Just so you know....

Usually I disappear at the end of my show to AVOID being burned at the stake!

Kind of Richiardian, don't you think? I think it would be fantastic, and with your permission, I'd like to play around with it a little. We do an Asrah that we call "Witchunt" Where the floating character is a "witch" that we first try to stab, and then we go to burn her, and as the torch comes down, the float begins and then her escape. That would tie in perfectly to that theme. I was thinking maybe an animatronic burning corpse to really get the juices flowing! Somehow the idea of a wiggling burning corpse just seems like it would really get a strong reaction from the crowd.
Of course, it would be completely unusable in my Christmas show.....Bwaaa haaa haa haa! Click here to view attached image. |

This sounds a lot like the "Burned Alive" effect. (one place to find it is Abbott's).
It's a good effect and can be really effective if presented right. |

Although I designed one for a haunted house in Los Gatos, California, we have yet to build it. The principle was simple to anyone familiar with "Burned Alive", but it was designed for the "victim" to be upright on the stake (like the witches in the movie "The Conquerer Worm" or classic images of Joan of Arc meeting the salamander).

Go ahead the levitator. You not only have my permission but I hope you keep us all here updated with the progress. The animatronics idea is GREAT! Make it SCREAM! More power to you for giving it life, my friend!
Seance, I'm familiar with "Burned Alive" but this "looks" different as it should be upright! You're right pete the creeper, the image is similar to the Joan Of Arc execution! Hope you build it soon!

I seem to remember Paul Daniels doing a "Burnt At The Stake" effect on one of his TV specials. Perhaps another UK member can back me up on this. I remember a large black hood was placed over his head and then the fire lit. It was also the end of the show so I think the credits rolled as the fire burned.
We're having a laugh!

If anyone has a good resource on how to do this without completely breaking your bank account, please tell me, I'd love to know. Thanks

I worked this out for the Texas Renaissance Festival back about 1986. It was to be done with Joan of Arc, who was to be taken to the stake by a group of guards. As she burned, you would see the flesh melting right off her bones.
They never built it, though -- too gross for the kiddos. But I still have the idea filed away in my kidneys!

Oh I love it! Especially if you get some local clergy to play along

Being a second generation Wiccan, I can honestly say that one of the first things I wanted to do when I was younger was "Burned at the Stake" routine.
My brother, who is not a magician but a big sci-fi / fantasty/ RPG enthusiast, suggested I do an effect where I'm actually staked to a cross and, hanging by the stakes, get burned alive. Maybe one day, I shall do so. But not for my kids show (Unless its at a Public School...j/k....honestly). -Daniel |
