Any methods for that Japanese game that's taking over the us?

My wife is an addict. She learned quite a bit from the Sudoku for Dummies book and the more she did them the more things she figured out on her own. She used to cheat quite a bit like I did on crossowrd puzzles but after a couple of months, she didn't even really have to cheat.

UGH!! Don't even mention that game!!

Not at all. I've been doing these puzzles for decades. Dell puzzle magazines have carried them as long as I can remember and I've always enjoyed them.

Why are women more addicted to this than men?

I started doing these puzzles with pencil and paper, eliminating numbers by hand. I liked the puzzle, but they became tedious to solve this way. I could spend almost an hour with an easy puzzle, eliminating possible numbers by hand. Then I figured there must be computer programs that would do these chores for me and downloaded several. I finally arrived at a shareware product by Sadman Software that enables me to solve even the "fiendish" problems in about 15 minutes. It displays the options for every cell and allows you to highlight any number so you can easily check for patterns (is it the only one in its block, row or column? Can you eliminate the same number from other squares in the same block, row or column?) In addition, it also allows you to step through the solution and prints out a log showing the reason for each move. This allows you to learn solution strategies by example.
