Why is the board's engine so picky about image files ?
More often than not, when I attempt to use the [ img ] tag to place an image inline, it won't do it. I know it's a "valid" image, I just viewed it and have the URL. For example: http://www.audioholics.com/news/uploads/LBOmicromini.jpg For whatever reason, that won't work. ? Thanks

The reason is kind of technical, but basically it's because the image file does not contain embedded information such as file type and/or width and/or height details. Without those there's no way to validate whether the file is an image or something that could be harmful to the board. A lot of boards use file extensions as the element of validation, but those can be very easily faked. So can embedded information, but it's more difficult to do and still have the bad file do what it was intended to do. We had a problem with that early on, hence the current method of validation. We haven't had a problem since.
If you have a graphics program of some sort, you can try opening the file in that program, resize it slightly so the new file is "created" in that program, and save it with a new name. Depending on the program, that may be enough to add those embedded details. I've done that and it has seemed to work fine. I use Paint Shop Pro, but even Microsoft's Paint may work. I've never tried that though.

Thanks Gene,
I'm still having an issue with some jpgs, usually I use Irfanview to open them and pare down the color bits to 256 bit, at least, and even less if it doesn't hurt the image quality too much, and I almost always lower the resolution and do a little cropping as well. Irfanview typically does embed all the properties, it's a great little freeware app. I'll keep hammering away at it, thanks. BTW, can one link to png files here as well ? Thanks ! Paul

Yes, you should be able to use PNGs. I haven't tried, but I don't see why not.
