I ordered a set (two DVDs) of DVD thinking I was getting something new from David Williamson. What I got was two DVD's from a fellow named Geoff Williams who I had never heard of. I decided to keep them and give them a shot for the review show, to be honest I wasn't expecting anything other than a product that might get a bad review. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Killer Magic for the Rest of Us by Geoff Williams.

The production level is very good, nicely shot and edited, the sound is solid. Bad sound in video I find no excuse for so if it glitched I'd bring it up. Basically it is Geoff Williams in front of a dark curtain performing then explaining. Different camera angles are used, what ever they felt would best show the moves.

The material isn't original with Geoff, which is fine, but he did add value to them with changes and presentational ideas. Geoff is very funny and skilled at communicating the instructions on how to do the routines, they are complete and clear.

As said I started out not expecting much but found almost all of the material to be top notch and, with the exception of a couple cigarette tricks and one card trick I didn't think fit my style. Over all this is the best collection of magic suitable for walk around and restaurant table work, heck, close up and a lil' stand up, that I've seen. Here are only some of the highlights:

Electrical Artlet and Uploopted: Ever wanted to plug a radio into a drawing of a wall socket and have it play while you do a nice card levitation? You will after you see this. I was completey wrong as to how he did the radio. Very creative, you'll be surprised how easily you can set up to do it. The levitation was nice as well.

The I Hate David Copperfield Trick. Terrible name for this lil' three card trick. In fact I hate to call it a card trick, it is more of an illusion done with cards. I watched the performance half way through and went back to the start again because I couldn't believe what I saw. Easy to do but this is one of the most visual things I've seen in over 30 years of doing magic with cards. If the DVD was only ten minutes long and only covered this one trick it would be worth it. I actually do it for fun just because it looks so cool.

More On Oil and Water. Great oil and water, slowly done and slight free. Really nice.

More Ultimate that Ultimate Torn and Restored Card. Logic finally hits the torn and restored card, and it is a complete restoration. Geoff combines the T&R with a classic of magic, another great routine.

There are many more routines on the first DVD but I don't want to get into all of them....great stuff all of it other than the cig stuff which is cool but I'm anti cig.

Nice way to introduce a ring and string routine with an old magic standard.

Ready 2 Link. A get ready and a bit of handling advice on one of my favorite rubber band tricks (the linking head bands from The Magic of Michael Ammar). If you are a rubber band guy this rocks.

Devastation. Quick, easy, done with any deck, card trick that will fry 'em.

Bear Hands. Perfect for kids, one of the few card tricks that is, with a great ending. If you work restaurants where kids are this will become a favorite.

Everything's a Radio. Turn anything into what seems to be a radio. Creative but not for the tshirt crows.

Much much more with sponge balls, eye balls, and other fun stuff.

If you see these DVD's and don't know who Geoff Williams is just go for it. I was very surprised as to the top notch work on these DVDs and for an added kicker Geoff is entertaining enough to keep me awake while watching....a rarity when it comes to some DVD's and me.

The DVDs are in a number of shops, your favorite likely has it (Penguin doesn't, I check) I got it from a brick and morter shop. For those into reading and not dvds I did get an email saying that Geoff Williams has lecture notes, titled something like "Things Your Mother Never Told You" and "Things Your Father Never Told You", someone may know the real titles, but I was told the notes cover the same info as the dvd does for the most part.

The real title is: "The Lecture Your Mother Never Gave You."
