The Titanic Deck by Titanus

I used to use cards in my mentalism show allot. But for the last year or so, ive stopped using them, preferring the use of only people and almost no props. But upon recently reading TD ebook from http://www.titanas.net began experimenting with them again.

The titanic deck is almost a utility device to make card work seem allot fairer, at any point the deck can be passed to spectator to examine, shuffle – or do anything with which you would have them do with you normal bike deck.

The ebook itself;

Clearly explains everything needed to create your own TD with advice from personal experience of the creator. It also thoroughly explains the secret in order for you to really understand the true ability this idea holds – and really gets your creative juices flowing at only page 8!

There is then a further 8 pages on advice for handling and how to make everything look clean and answering any question you may have when learning the secret.

There is then three effects detailed;

Riffle Choice;

Effect – the deck is fairly shuffled until the spectator is happy. Then the spectator is asked to look at the card as you riffle through them and merely shout stop whenever – while all this happens the magi’s head is turned – also the cards are riffled very slowly to prove there is no funny business going on (as in no force!!!). The spec then shouts stop, she is handed the card and then the magi is in a position to reveal the card in any way wanted.

Thoughts, this is a good effect, though maybe more of a magician stumper in that they cant see how the riffle force is happening, the spectator will be just as impressed by this as any way you use the deck to tell them what they are thinking. I think that this merely used as an idea as how to present different effects. From what ive found the effects where the spec holds the cards are stronger.

Under The Table

Effect – The deck is FAIRLY SHUFFLED, the spectator is then handed the deck to check that no cards are previously reversed and asked to SHUFFLE the cards if they like. The spec is than told to put the deck under the table and cut it as many times as the like and turn the deck over, then turn the face card face down and put into the center of the deck. The magi is the only person in the world that knows the identity of the card!

Thoughts - Great effect! YES THE DECK IS SHUFFLED BY THE SPEC! Deck is always in the specs hands, and yet you still know the card they selected that they don’t even know! Based on ideas by Koran and Osterlind I think – and yes there are other version; but this effect is the best version of the ‘under the table’ type effect by far!

Picture This

Effect – the spectator is shown a picture of spread cards and told that the way in which the picture is taken will influence his choice of a card. She is then instructed to think of any of the cards. Then in order that there is proof of her selected she is asked to take the shuffled deck (yes she can shuffle it) and remove her thought of card. Then by means of body language reading the magi reveals the colour, suit then value of the card!

Thoughts – another beautiful effect, this time the patter is right on, if presented properly this is such a gorgeous effect, and you know what they say about gorgeous! Make this a ‘test conditions’ type effect studying your own body language skills and ive found you can know the card without even touching the deck! Imagine that, the deck is freely shuffled, even by the spec, and you don’t even touch the deck, yet you still know the identity of the card,(only takes a small amount of further thought) still think you know how its done?

There is then the explanation of the ‘third principle’ if you think you know how the TD works, this piece of genius is well worth the price of the ebook for the mere applications it could have for everything else you could do in magic and mentalism. A very small amount of thought and reference to peoples work like Anneman and Juan Tamariz for instance and your creativeness will be brimming over in every which direction.

There is also a bonus effect called;

RESIST

Basically, this is an advancement of the ‘picture this’ idea with out the photo and with two spectators, and man what advancement. Picture this is the best effect in the ebook, Resist is the best effect ive learnt with cards from a mental POV in the last few years (that’s as in I'm a card hobbyist, and I wouldn’t exactly perform this after ‘frog and princess’ then ‘Cassandra’s quandary’ just to put that comment in perspective) This effect truly is a gem, it’s a stage effect with cards I would say, it is that good! It is this effect that made me reconsider putting cards back into my professional act.

Overall – I hate it when people comment on the ‘synthetics’ of ebooks as in, ‘it’s a very well presented ebook, attractive and nice font’ wtf! But this is actually a nice looking book. But the content IS what’s important and the content is clear simple and easily understood but more importantly its a genuinely enlightening read, even if you think you know how any of this is done, it will really stimulate you to create some effects with it, and it really is worth it. It really makes card handling clean with out any MAGICIANS type moves, and with a spec shuffling!

9/10

IMHO it is worth twice the price, also if you lazy, you can buy the deck of him directly, what more could you possibly ask for?

Hope this helps anyone considering the purchase.

Jon Hackett

p.s.
To the point of 'how to get a mentalist using cards' why don't mentalists use cards? well that's a question for another thread, but this utility device as such allows for a mentalist to finally use cards without any funny moves, at all, infact the one thing that most of the major mentalists say about cards is that there fine if the spec holds them all the time, well how about holding them and shuffling them Smile

I'm sure both the ebook and the TD are excellent.
However, I would suggest that these effects can be done 'almost' identically with a normal deck in the hands of a good performer.
And finally, I do believe that we've done to death the argument of whether a mentalst could/should use a pack of cards. I think the general concensus of opinion is that once again it depends on the performer and his/her style.

If they spec has the cards in their hands and shuffles them themselves it stops them working backwards.

its that simple, and its something I suggest you havent thought of, the sustainment of mystery is just as important as the creation in my opinion as a perofmer.

I have this pdf myself, and wasnt going to post anything on it, but as a kind of review was made it will say my bit, first of the guy who devleoped this is a real gentleman, and very fair to deal with.
Personally I do not like this deck, like that has already been mention, you can perform just as strong effects without a gimmicked deck. My 2 issues with it are this. and I can not expand on this as those who have the pdf will understand.

1) I do not agree you can hand this out to a spec to shuffle, in the way this is done, it has to be controlled, those who own it will understand this.
2) I do not belive you can hand this deck out, or even give it away, I handed this deck to a friend who isn't magically inclined and he ask what 'this is'. point to one of the workings.

I know this sounds a little cloak and dagger, but I can't expand on my issues without tipping the workings.

Having said of all of this, when I rasied this with the creator, he offered me a refund ( something you don't really encounter in this industry). But I have the knowledge and declined his kind offer.

steve

I REALLY LIKE AND USE THE TITANIC DECK!Why?

Because it is perfect for the fast paced venues I perform in:Restaurants and other Strolling situations.
I am not a highly skilled card mechanic(nor do I want to give that appearance).The Titanic Deck leads my audiences to believe that I am just a average card handler,that can perform near miracles.I am able to concentrate on presentation and entertainment.The deck can be fairly shuffled by myself,and even by the spectator (under control)however,this is not necessary,because the regular folks that I perform for are only concerned that "I" am fairly shuffling the cards.Why over prove,if it is not necessary.

Thus far the Titanic Deck has been a big winner for me,and I believe I have only scratched the surface as to how I can entertain with it.Best.

PS:Tincture,it is not a marked deck.

Back again guys;

Firstly, ive used this deck for ages now. Ive never had a spectator notice anything, infact, magicians at the gathering don't even notice what the heck is going on.

I suggest that perhaps if people are noticing it on your deck you have made the deck yourself and nnot bought the intended cards where it was advised. These cards are ordinary cards available almost anywhere, I know for instance in the shop I work in sometimes there available.

Secondly I don't really have the spec shuffle, I shuffle them myself, to the point there interweaved and spread them on the table or do a water fal to prove that theyre all mixed. BUT sometimes I get the spec to shuffle by merely having another spec CUT the deck first, then tell them to shuffle the two packets into each other, if they cant do it I do it, and it all looks fair.

The fact of the matter is that if the cards ARE shuffled the specs cant work backwards in the way that they can with non shuffled methods.

NOW onto the interesting part...

I got the second bonus today;

UTTS

The effect is so long it is difficult to describe, but I think from a mentalist's point of view it is by far the best effect yet. So many possibilities with this routine too.

If anyone is interested I will do a full review, but I think that writing another really long comment here will put people off reading this thread.

But lest to see this bonus alone is worth buying the ebook for,not to mention that the forum you get accsess to has at least ten new effects to try as well.

I hate to tell you this but the Titanic Deck is nothing new. It has actually come out previously as a marketed product by Brian Nordstrom called the "Indivisible" deck. You can get it through Murphy's, Hocus-Pocus or any good online or offline magic shop. Privately Titanus was told about this before he released his ebook. Apparently he decided not to pay any attention to the advice given.

Here is the info on the "Indivisible" deck: http://www.murphysmagic.com/s.nl?sc=7&am......ategory=

My product is not just a way to shuffle a stacked deck. It has some great routines and a lot more than continuesly coming up. My deck also has a third principle and some great handling tips.
You say "Privately Titanus was told about this before he released his ebook. Apparently he decided not to pay any attention to the advice given." This is a big lie with a capital "L" . I ve been informed about that deck (which shares 2 of my 3 principles) and I credit the man that created even I came up with this idea independetely. My Booklet is 38 pages and covers a lot of things (just about anything).
So, if you have something against me, go out and blame me...otherwise keep your theories for your self.
p.s : Well the deck you mentioning is nothing more than minds eye deck with playing cards (if you want to talk about original ideas) nothing new has been added.

From what I have understood from posts here on the magiccafe as well as from posts on the Titanas.net forum, the Titanic Deck is a full product that has triggered performers to play along with it and take advanatage of its features.

I am very happy with this item and I witnessed a very professional and generous attitude from Titanus himself that I can't believe that his intentions were to become rich and famous by copying/pasting another's ideas. If it was so, he could well do it with millions other ideas and principles that exist in magic and aren't known broadly.

I got the pdf, I found it very exciting and useful and decided to include into my repertoire - Many times has happened to me that I read an effect and don't consider to try it because the way it is written and presented is very weak and I may change my mind if I watch it on a DVD or see ot live. And this is another very good thing about the Titanic Deck booklet; you watch the clip online and then read it and find out many important and nice clues on how you may perform it with impact.

So all products have their place, I don't care who is first thinking of an idea or taking a pen to write it down or who presses first the "print" button etc etc - I can only say that the Titanic Deck is a wonderful piece of magic at a ridiculously low price that is created and written with care.

Last but not least, the cards may be shuffled slowwwly before the spectator but by also doing some little audience management (very little if someone knows and understands the term "audience management"), the spectator may shuffle them too making him feel in control of the process. It is like the Gilbreath principle-when you apply it, your effect becomes something like a miracle. Otherwise, you may hire David Copperfield to do some miracles to show to your audience.

Nothing more, nothing less.

With the titanic deck you also get a community at the titanic forum.

People genuienly try to help each other there, not slate them because someone else is as clever as them.

Just to add from my post earlier, this guy is a true gentleman, I do not belive his idea rip anything off. Its a very clever method, and for the money its a bargin. Like I said it wasn't for me personally, but Titanas is a decent bloke, and give him credit where credit is due, its a good deck.

I truly believe Titanis came up with this idea independently,and he does eloquently credit Mr. Nordstrom in the e-book.
Mr.Titanis is a true gentleman,not to mention his generosity in sharing new ideas for the Deck on the Titanis Deck Forum.
Some folks are quick on the trigger before they know ALL the facts.
Sometimes,no matter how much early research is done,all bases can't alway's be covered.I highly reccommend the Titanic Deck e-book.

It takes time nathan because he has to individually personalise each ebook, with a water mark and password.

Also the bonuses need to be sent to and acsess to the forum.

It all takes time. Its worth it though, well I think so.
