On my home computer the website doesn't come up correctly. Areas with gif's and such only display as a box with an x in it.
I have NO problem with any other websites. Is there something unusual with this website that could be causing my computer to not display it properly. Cookies are enabled...I am running Windows XP professional. Could it be an unusual Java script?

This site uses extremely little javascript. The output html is pretty standard fare. Usually when someone reports image problems there's something local causing it, not the site itself, or everybody would have the same problem. I'd start by looking at what programs you run, particularly security-related programs.
Somebody kick me off the computer, will ya?

Are you running a software firewall?
The Café requires that you accept "web bugs" and I think "prvate headers" |

I use Norton Systemworks Professional.
And yes I use Norton Internet Securities as a firewall. I thought that could possibly be the problem but I keep coming back to the fact that I have no problems viewing other websites. I plan on getting rid of Norton anyway. It's a memory hog and not that great. I am going to start using NOD32. Any ideas or suggestions from what I just mentioned??

Daniel,
Since the search function is down it's hard to find, but check out this post from 2004 which references problems with several firewall products including this report from Symantec.

Thanks Dave.
I just tried completely disabling my firewall and still most icons won't show up. I get the avatars and threads. Nothing else.

There was another thread that had info too, but I can't find it. It had something to do with a Norton program other than the firewall that is part of their internet security suite. I don't remember the program name, but it had something to do with removing ad banners and such. A member was having the same problem with the site because it includes banners and it turned out to be that program that was doing it. I can't remember if the user changed a setting or disabled the program, but he was able to see the images again.

Gene, correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember it had to do with blocking "referral information" and you mentioned that the graphics here were on a different server, thus they were being blocked by Norton as if they were remote hosted ads. Once the software was configured to allow this "referrer information," the images came back.
This is what Norton had to say about it: "How referrer information blocks portions of Web pages When you open a Web page that includes graphics, the Web server for that page may use the referrer information to display the graphics. This happens when those graphics are stored on a different Web server than the one you are visiting. In this situation, the first Web server sends a request to the graphics Web server to obtain the graphics. The request includes the referrer information. The referrer information enables the graphics Web server to send the graphics to the correct location. When you block the referrer information, the graphics Web server cannot send the graphics to the correct location, and you do not see the graphics that your current Web server would normally display. "
