I don't think that the video will sell anybody on your entertainment value. There is quite a bit of talking but you can't here the talking, you can't hear the applause, or laughter. I think that there should be more of your perfomance with a lot of shots of audience reaction, with the sounds that go along with it. Maybe just use the music durring the transitions or as a music bed throughout the whole video and just lower the volume while there is talking.

I think it's a nice video to share with friends. For a professional demo video, you could use a few seconds of it. The D'lites (edit it down a few seconds) and the card reaction near the end with the two people. There should probably be a little audio so bookers can hear you present your magic. It's good to put some to music, that's fun. But not all.
Just remember the three most important things: Reactions, reactions, reactions. If you don't have a set of wireless lapel mikes for your video camcorder, they are not that expensive. Sony makes a set for about $100. It's amazing how much more professional it will make the video look to have good quality audio. My video isn't up on my site yet for the public, because it's too large (35 MG), and I'm still trying to make it smaller. But you can check it out for comparison. Go to http://www.deep-magic.com/webpromo.mpg and let me know what you think. |

Bravo, Mr. Lozoff!
Out of all the clips, I was most envious of the moment you made the little girl squeal "Daddy!" and run into her father's arms. It's fantastic that you caught as much of this on tape as you did. Did you, or do you, notice any discernable difference in your audience' behavior or reactions when the camera's on them? Regards, -jjg |

Find a cameraman that doesn't shake that much (or buy a tripod) and knows how to film, get someone to do the editing too, the video was really really bad, you should change the point of view more often, add close up shots try to build something and express yourself, not just linking video clips...

Xargos,
Sorry to say you are bang out of order with your comments and I wish you had saved the energy it took for you to type your pathetic schoolboy words. I put the post up for fellow members to see a knew website which allows you to put your clips up on it was not an invatation to a open forum to slate my clips which I put together as a bit of fun after a wedding I performed at. I see from your 9 posts that you may be a recent member please remember this is a site for 'magicians, helping magicians' As a wise person once said if you havent got anything important to say shut your mouth!!! or in this case rest those little fingers!!! read lozoff's post I think you should aim for things like that!! I see you are a film student - maybe there is a site for fellow film students to get together and slate each other...... I am truely sorry that all I can do is link video clips lol..... I like to spend my time doing what I know and love entertaining people! I fear that this post may open the door for another un thought about epic quote from you....i for one can not wait!!! so think carefully maybee you should read my thoughts and don't open the topic box again!! kind regards Ash |

You are completely out of line, if someone wants to post their comments on a video(which were all VALID comments btw) then that is their viewpoint, you don't need to go attacking someone or putting them down just because you are insecure about your video.
I really agree with him... the editing wasn't too hot, there was no interconnection it just looked like a string of un-connected badly shot video's. |

HANG ON A SEC!!! Xargos' points MAY have been valid in some people's opinions, but there is certainly a right and a wrong way to go about telling someone how they could improve for example:
TTTT (The Table Top Trixta)Is this the video you were considering using for your professional promo work, if so, there are some points that you might want to consider. First of all you couldn't hear the audience reactions. You could see them reacting, but you couldn't hear them which I think is a real selling point. Second, the camera was a little shaky making viewing a little less enjoyable. You may want to invest in a tri-pod so that it doesn't wobble, or get a different/better camera-man/woman. Thirdly, the d'lite routine was beautiful, and the footage of the astonished kid was great, but personally I would shorten it for a great impact. Just some ideas Ali That is much better than "Your video sucked"

Luckily, my wife is a videographer. But to be honest, we both studied David Blaine's specials before we set up shooting events. I mean STUDIED, like hours analyzing why it's so effective. His videographer understands perfectly what's important. Some on the magician, a LOT on the spectators, occasional close-ups, fluid, hand-held movements, but not shaky.
But mainly a focus that is more on the spectators than on the magician. It's amazing how many clips you barely even see Blaine. Of course my wife knows my magic, so she knows when to get ready for a big reaction. When to zoom in and catch the card or ball or whatever. I would definitely suggest that anyone who hires a videographer, or gets a friend to help, have them sit down and study David Blaine's first special strictly for the camera work. Yes, people definitely react differently when a camera is around. We had to lose a lot of fottage because the specs just didn't react naturally. What you saw in that video started with a couple of hours of raw footage over the course of a year or so. |

I may have been a little bit harsh, and I apologize for this.
Cinema (well "animated picture" in general) is very important to me and I get a bit carried away some times, I wanted to help you get a better video. |

Thanks Ac-magic, I did not put this video up to have any comments made on it, if you read my first post it was just to tell fellow magicians here about a site which allows you to view videos that's it not 'hey guys can you tell me what you think about my knew vieo???
it is not for anything apart from me playing bout with movie maker, the way some comments are delivered are sometimes bang out of order!! but thanks to Ac-magic for reminding me this is a great site and there are some nice persons here!! END OF TOPIC I hope!!! |
