I'm a big fan of Slydini's work and was thinking of getting one of these two sets. Does anyone know about the quality of material in these sets? Also, if I'm only going to get one, which one should it be?

Thanks.

These were great books, each set consists of one book of text and one of photos accompanying the write up. Slydini was very proud of these books I remember. Karl Fulves did an excellent job of explaining everything in detail. The choice, if you do not buy both sets, is determined by your reading the table of contents and determining which effects of Slydini you want to learn.

Hi Rajat

I assume these are two videos.

I too admire the work of Slydini and managed to capture him in live performance.

I have no knowledge of the items you refer to but I did benefit from the original Lewis Ganson release called "the Magic of Slydini".

Not sure whether you have got this or whether its still in print. There has been an update to this called the "Annotated Magic Of Slydini" which I believe was based on the original Ganson work with additions by Tony Slydini.

It's currently on special offer from the following link:-

Hope this is of some use.

I'd recommend either of them but can't help you pick. Personally I don't like the text/photo split, but it's great material.

Actually, I was looking at these books in order to get an insight into the way Slydini worked out presentations for his magic. I think he was a real genius of making the simple tricks look like miracles. I wanted to observe his thought process behind each presentation - not in theory, but its application.

In that sense, the contents are not much help. I'm sure there are great tricks in there, but I don't think I need new tricks. I've got too many that I know but never perform.

So from this point of view, which would be a better book? Or would you guys still say that either is fine?

Greetings and Salutations Rajat,

I don't have them in front of me, but I own both. And both are great, with excellent material.

The Magical World of Slydini is all effects. I got it for a couple of different effects I was looking for.

Slydini called Jim Cellini one of his best students, and Cellini recommended that I get The Best of Slydini. Once I acquired it, it was clear why. The Best of contains a lot of material on Slydini's magical thinking.

I'll step out on the limb and say, if you can only get one, get the one Cellini recommended to me: "The Best of Slydini."

YMMV. Hope this helps.

Rajat,

I sent my previous response before your latest missive popped up on my screen.

Considering your latest post, definitely go with "The Best of Slydini."
