Hi, I'm trying to decide between angel and icarus. ive read all of these reviews and heres what it seems like. icarus is great. havn't heard any bad reviews, and the criss angel is good for the people who actually built it. I cand decide wether its more important to perform an extremely high for one person, with bad angles , for one person, or levitate for one person, not as high, but with a way to get rid of angles. I just cant decide. could people please post their reviews of only the ones they own, and what you think of it. thank you very much.

Blake,
I know the search engine is donw, but this topis has been beaten to death. Scroll through most of the pags of the street magic section, and I'm sure you'll find hundreds of reviews. I personally like Criss Angel's better. But this topic has ben covered in depth. So, happy searching Haas

Get rid of the angles... you'll perform it more often then. you'll just enjoy it so much more. I give you my word.

It also depends on to whom you will be performing the effect and the venue for same. Will you be performing on stage, where you can control the angles better, or in venues where it is more difficult to control, such as a street performer or in a bar and/or resturant. I often perform in venues where I do not always have the control of the audience to the extent that I would feel comfortable performing any more angle limitations than I absolutely have to. So for me, Icarus makes more sense, even though there are angle limitations with Icarus, as well. As to the height difference between the two, all that I can say is that I have freaked people out with Icarus going up only as high as a step or curb. I personally do not think that floating any higher would make much more of a qualitative difference. For me, the float with Icarus is just fine and considering that I am trying to limit the angle problem, it makes sense for me to stick with Icarus. In other words, after performing Icarus, I am happy with the lift and the reaction it gets, and I do not have to be any more paronoid than I have to being concerned about the angles. Also, I do not know if CA's float allows you to access the gimmick at all times, with the ability to use it at will (once you ensure that the angles are ok). With Icarus you can, and that allows me to seek out the most appropiate time and place to perform and once I find that time and place, simply perform the effect. The gimmick is available to me throughout the whole day ready for use on command. Maybe someone who owns CA's effect can illuminate us as to that aspect of his effect. If CA's is limited in that fashion, than to me that would be a major factor to consider. I also agree with others opinions expressed in the many posts about not wanting to turn my back during the float. Again, a loss of control, and perhaps most importantly, I would never have seen my wife's face when I first performed the effect when she (who never curses) said "holly cr-p" with an expression on her face to match. I will never forget that moment, and there has to be something to be said for that alone. Hope that this helps. Regards, Bob. |

Nice post bob. that was certainly helpful. I always liked icarus better because in my oppinion it looks more natural.smooth. CR's looks a little forced. I know the method used but , as I don't own any of them , I don't know each oness details. that is why I am still trying to decide.
all the best -Matt

I have the Mastermind Vol 2 DVD. It will take some work, especially here in the Philippines. Materials might not be exact but will be able to find some alternatives.

Good luck! Just a word of advice. When you get the DVD (which is excellent and very detailed) watch it at least 2 times through and through on the construction part, before you do ANY construction. It is very important to get all of the measurements right the first time, as any mistakes can become very frustrating. Most importantly, if you make mistakes, you may need to purchase additional materials, and they can be expensive and difficult to find. I am told that you can not buy extra materials now online, but I checked out the prices (in the Icarus forum that you join for free) and they are very pricey in my opinion. I do not mean to alarm you, but I started to think that I could rush the process (which is not really that long or complicated) and I made an error. It caused me to have to deconstruct and reconstruct the gimmick, which was a real pain. I should have just taken my time and ensured it was done right the first time. Other than that, I think that you made a good choice and will LOVE the effect. PM me and let me know how it turns out. Happy floating, Bob. |
