If you're missing Skype, you're missing out on a lot! For example, last night Ark and I talked for free for one hour -- he in Sweden and me in Brussels. Totally cost free, and no gimmicks or hassles.
Anyone else wanna get in touch? Summer season's almost here, and there's lots to talk about. Especially if anyone here wants to know more about the European busking scene. Chance My Skype ID: 'magicchance' (in Brussels) |

Watch out. Skype has received some bad publicity over here by suddenly hitting people with surcharges.

As far as I know, Skype to Skype calls are totally free! However, you do need a computer and your friend too with Skype software. Skype never asked me for my credit card info. when I signed up.
I just talked to a friend in Australia for an hour for free

Bill, that's just wrong. There is no requirement that you even have a credit card, or Paypal, etc., to become a Skype member. How can they charge you when they don't even have your credit info? I have made long distance international calls totalling dozens of hours over the past 18 months for nary a cent (except the cost of a cheap headset mic.) There IS an option with Skype where you can make calls from your computer to a land line, but this is just an option; it is not in any way required.
You are very respected here. You probably just turned away a few dozen people from Skype for no good reason. I'll bet you would quickly change your tune once you started using Skype yourself. Why not start with me? I'd certainly look forward to hearing from you. Chance |

Is there any limit on the time you can talk on Skype? And I guess I'll need a mic!

My information came from a news broadcast I heard about two weeks ago. It had to do with the idea that the charges would be passed through your ISP.
Okay. I went and did a little research to see if I could find any hint of the newscast that had caught my ear a couple of weeks ago. I found out a couple of interesting things. So far -- and that is the key here -- so far, computer to computer calls are free. Computer to land line calls may or may not have a surcharge. Computer to cell phone calls do have a surcharge -- if not for you DEFINITELY for the person who receives them (according to a couple of articles on various news services.) Here's the part you didn't know, apparently. If you have a paypal account or an ebay account -- they DO have your credit card number, if you used a credit card to set up your account. Ebay owns Skype. No matter what the people at Skype tell you -- there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Bill, here we are, my friends and I and literally millions of other Skype users, using Skype for free. For free, AND without any credit card or Paypal account required to do so. Heck, I don't even HAVE a credit card or a Paypall account! But I HAVE personally used Skype to call overseas for dozens of hours myself -- again, absolutely for free. Multiply that figure by over 4 million users and you begin to get the idea.
I also have a friend that DOES use Skype's for-pay services. That's his choice. No one forced him or tricked him into it. (And he's VERY happy with their overall service too, I might add.) Will it ever change to a for-pay service for every user? Dunno. Maybe. But there's also talk that all emails will someday soon cost a penny or two each. But it's not happening yet. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Maybe someday the lunches will stop being so free, but at least for today they still are. Thank goodness for that! I am just a poor busker after all. Regardless, and getting back on topic, it would be great to hear from any and all members here! Skype rocks! (Until it doesn't...) Chance |

And I just have to underline what Chance is saying. I used it saturday night to talk to Chance (got to do that again.) and the program really rocks! It is easy, works right away and is free! (According to Skype and all users I've heard about, only computer to computer though, but why not talk via computer when you can surf, send files and urls while talking?)
Thanks chance for introducing it to me! /Ark

I agree with Chance. I've played around with Skype for quite some time before adding it as a contact method for our business. The video version which may or may not be out of beta is great as well. It's become a valuable resource when showing the details of a piece to a customer or using it to communicate with our manufacturers in regards to prototypes. So far, nothing I've seen or experimented with comes close to the audio quality and clarity.
There is no cost unless you choose to buy phone time from pc to landline/cellphone calls. You can find our Skype info at the following link: http://www.thetrickery.com/?nd=39 |

http://www.jajah.com is pretty cool.
You put in your number and the person you want to call's number and THEY phone both of you! That means it doesn't use your broadband connection to make the calls, its uses the jajah connection. No hardware, no special hook ups and it costs very little. |

**Computer to cell phone calls do have a surcharge**
Never for the person on the computer, yes for the person with the cell phone, as that is normal, when they get a call from anyone, it is the same. Computer to Landline within NA from NA is one hundred percent free right now. I've called Manitoba, Halifax, NB, Ontario, all to landline phone and no charges to me or the people receiving the calls. |

I use the full service for all of my phone calls. Skype users can call me for free, I have unlimited calls, even to landlines within the U.S. and Canada and international calls are super cheap. No one tricked me into signing up for anything, it's just a great deal! I even have a special box that allows me to use my regular phone for Skype calls. I think that I paid about $19.00 for it.
