For those of have it/have used it, what are your thoughts? I know that this is supposedly an updated version of Jim's "Afterburn" effect. I'm considering purchasing the gimmick for use during my walk-around magic and any thoughts on this product will be greatly appreciated; positive or negative. At $40 retail I thought I should find out about it first before dropping the cash on it.

The most important thing at any venue is to make sure that it is okay to play with fire... I have gotten great reactions from mine... Anything from Jim is professional & worth the price. He is available here on the Café if you have any specific questions.... JPV

I know that we are not supposed to mention the way effects work on these forums but I need to know if the effect requires flash paper/powder or what before I buy it. So if anyone could PM me and let me know that would be great.

Hi whizz,
I own this effect and have used it tonight for the last. I think its great. Jim has really done well on this one, and it was nice to see him up blackpool. Jim, I was the ginger-haired one that you gave some flash cotton to. Thanks for that, and by the way Jim, your cotton is MUCH better to use than that other guy's I bought, hmm.... Whizz, I would say get this. I love it. Just make sure to put enough cards in it before you go out, and no, it doesn't require anything else other than the liquid. No flash cotton or paper Daz |

I purchased the new Hot Leads and use it frequently. I think that the cards, if well soaked, will be good for about an hour if you can keep the wallet out of the heat.

AN HOUR?! Mine are good for at least 9 hours, but then again, I guess I read the instructions. Use a lot of cards, near 10-15 and it will be fine.

I have this and love it, but my prepared card only lasts for about 1 or 2 hours!

Like it says in the instructions guys, make sure you have lots of cards prepared. I think it's about 10-15, I can't remember. Not just 1 or 2 cards. Mine lasts all day and most of the night.

Great product. I got one from Jim and it works fine. Reload before going to the venue and I never have to worry.

I bought this a while ago, and was pretty surprised (in a bad way) at what it actually was. I was expecting something much more creative. It's one of those things where you open the package and say to yourself... "I could have, and did think of that", but you were expecting something that was better than your idea.
It does serve its intended purpose, so I can't take anything away from it in terms of functionality, but overall, I was not impressed with the gimmick. |

Mike, you would have been impressed with Afterburn. It was a little more high-tech.

I'm glad you've improved the product. The shop I work at stocks some of your material, and most of it is top notch. I'll have to take a look at "afterburn"

I recently recieved Jim's Hot Leads wallet and found that even after 24hrs the cards still ignited. In one way the effect was much nicer as the flame did not have to be blown out and extinguished itself after a couple of seconds with no burn marks left on the card.

How do you get the card not to burn, everytime I try, I have to blow the card out and I still end up with burn holes in it.

I don't seem to have a problem with it but it may depend on the fluid you are using and also the card. I use ordinary cards (no gloss) and zippo lighter fluid if that's any help. I also only let it burn for a second or so.

Is it best to prepare your cards individually or in packs (of ten)?

It says how to do it in the instructions...
I think that is the effect that is most asked the SAME QUESTION over and over. Yet, it says in the instructions. Do them in packs. Go read. Please. Daz |

Thanks, daz, for your handy advice.
I've read the instructions - over and over. But let's be honest, sometmes other people have better methods etc. I asked which way was BEST - not which way does it state in the instructions. |

Now kids...don't make me come over there!
Chris, whatever you decide will work. My experience says that 8 to 10 cards dipped at the same time works just great. Jim

Thanks, Jim
Does it really take that long to test if one card or a pack of 10 works best?! And this has been talked about in every other Hot Leads thread too, lol. Daz |
