The trick is only transparent if you present it in a way that allows it to be transparent. There are some sublities that you can employ that makes this not transparent. I just performed this for a lady who recently saw a world known mentalist in New York(whose name I will not say) and compared this effect (being AMAZING) to what she thought was his best effect that he did. She was speechless, jaws dropped, and thought I was amazing. Of course I had to tell her everybody has the ability to receive thoughts (memories) from someone etc... So, in conclusion- for the price of $25.00- (maybe not for all) but this is a STEAL. It's all in the presentation just like 90%+ of magic. If you never touch the cards and have them mix the cards up- there is NOTHING more fair than that!

Actually, I agree RNK - and I think we should add to the list of being a smart businessman that we should all treat the people we work with with respect, honour all the agreements that we make when working with people on projects - and be open, honest and fair when dealing with people in our supposedly close knit fraternity...
you could say, credit where credit is due...

Surely that would just be common sense though ? Mind you I guess some people lack even that lol x
One thing I have learned (in business etc) is no-one 'gets there' alone, and lets face it, the more you piddle people off the less you will get anywhere ! So for that reason alone, id be wary ... very ... E x |

This has been a great thread. I had only heard of Outlaw with respect to their wallets. When I went to their site yesterday I was blown away by the fabulous things available. So I put in an order...which includes Kioku and Luna 1935. I found Rick wonderful to deal with.
I am relatively new to mentalism/mental magic...but not performing. So once the props get here, I'll post how it works for me. I think I'll be a great guinea pig! David

What's the delivery time on this nowadays?

I don't know, Jon.
I'm in Canada. Sometimes the items get here within days...other times it takes a couple of weeks. Go figure. If you like I can post when it gets here. I am sure inquiring minds are dying to know. David

I don't think the hold up is in shipping time. Sometimes things get held up in customs.
Why? I dunno. Order an "Arm Chopper" and they trap it in customs for a couple of weeks. Go figure. David

Roth would not be a very smart business person if he didn't post anything after a FEW negative posts. All in all it seems there are MANY more positive remarks than negative concerning Kioku. As Roth stated- to each his own. Some may like it some may not- and that's OK! Hats off to Roth for keeping on top of his products! RNK

Outlaws shipping.... well Ive ordered ipswich and wa ce last year october. got here last month. not a pleasant experience, but who am I kidding, rick aint no murphys magic. plus, I heard that some of the high quality props are put together by other guys, like vic nadata and such.
things like the showdown and reflections took a week. but when those baby got here, it was all worth it. David Thiel: you'll have fun with kioku. I didn't use it for a while to save some wallet space, but this thread reminded me of how much fun I had with it, so Im carrying it in my showdown again. but to cover for the method, you'll have to spend some time thinking about presentation. I had so much fun with it. and luna is something very special. I used it twice with the trilogy in a gig here in korea, and it was amazing. the contents were not so complicated such that most of the korean population could read, such as symptoms and treatments, etc, and it really can create a spooky ambience throughout the room. btw there is a thread for the Jinn Box from outlaw in the spooky forum, a golden gun version of Kioku. looks great, but I hope rick solves certain crediting issues in this one, since it will carry the same methodology as kioku. |

Psi: I only ordered it late last week.
I've had several conversations with Rick...and have no doubt at all that he'll deliver. I mentioned your remarks to him and he said you don't respond to PMs...so he doesn't know what your problem is. Maybe you should talk to him. David

I'm waiting for mine, I sat on the fence for about a year on this one and took the plunge roughly two weeks ago. I will admit that I've had a pretty good experience with Rick as far as shipping goes in the past. Somethings have taken a bit longer then others but for me, it has been worth it.

It's a "right now" world. We order something and we want it yesterday.
I took my watch in for repair to a chain jewelery store and it came back un-fixed. I took it back. Same thing. Finally I took it to a shop run by a European. Little tiny shop. I had to wait three weeks...but it came back fixed AND cleaned. When things are made by hand by people who care more about the end result that hurrying the process, it takes time. And, as you say, if they are made by the right people...they are worth waiting for. David

This may be a little of topic by I heard this morning that canada post may be going on strike. If so, this could be quiet the pain for receiving products. The only option I guess would be to spend the extra money and get it by ups. That being said, for me, Ricks customer service has been top notch!

Kioku is a great mentalism effect because it packs small, but plays big. I am majoring in biological sciences, and my classmates are some of the sharpest and observant people out there--it's almost as bad as performing for magicians! Kioku is so deceptive, that I can perform it openly and have them check the cards out. They've NEVER been able to figure out the method.
In addition, the effect uses memories, which in my opinion is much stronger than the other mentalism effects out there like PB60. A personal and special memory of the best Christmas morning or your first dog will definitely be stronger than a thought up number, card, coin, animal, etc. It is a very good effect and is a topseller for a reason. |

Okay, PsiDroid.
My package arrived today: FOUR DAYS after I placed the order. (I've waited sometimes for a MONTH to get something in from the States.)It was perfectly packaged and promptly delivered...so I strongly suggest you either lighten up on your Outlaw comments or actually talk to them about whatever problem you've had. By the way: my wife...who exhibits exactly ZERO interest in my magic props saw me looking at my new Luna 1935 book and came over. "What's that?" she asked. "A mentalism effect," I said. I must admit that I was waiting for her to tell me something like 'Didn't they have any new ones?' (Since the book is beautifully aged looking.) Instead she walked over and asked if she could see it. She looked at it for a long while and when she gave it back, she said "It's beautiful. Really really beautiful. How does it work?" We had a discussion about it that went for some time...all about my beautiful new prop from Outlaw. I had great communication from Roth...I got a great deal...I was utterly blown away by what I got...and, having been in the magic business for 20+ years, it's not very often I am blown away. It is a prop I can hardly wait to use. And that's rare too. I look forward to doing lots of business with Roth...who, I think, may just be making the most impressive props I've seen anywhere. David

OK- so I know you all know that I like this effect- but- I have to tell you this- after I performed this for the Director of my son's daycare- she said, "GET OUT! That's crazy- Get Out"- so I left to get my son. She came in after me and said- "How? I have to know- or do you have some sort of power or do you see visions?" I plainly said- "we all have the power- it's just knowing how to access this part of the brain- a lot of reading and studying and you could do this". She left with a BIG smile (while still shaking her head in disbelief)! Kudos Rick for Kioku!
