I hope our good friend Bill Palmer will be able to shed some light on these. They are in the Stevens catalog (http://www.stevensmagic.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=7435 ) and are from Mark Mason met Auke Van Dokkum
"Each cup has been spun from a solid block of stainless steel. The cups decrease in size by a minute fraction so that each cup fits and locks inside each other. That's right - in case you’re confused, let us make that clear, all three cups '"nest" within each other! If you're a collector - we got ya! HA! If you're a performer you will enjoy these as well."

Very nicely made, and Auke's been a pleasure to work with (did some additional business with him post-purchase). Specific questions, PM me...

I ordered a set of Auke's rings couple of years back and it broke soon after I got it. He promised to replace me a new set but ever since I heard nothing from him. I even mailed back my rings to him... I think the products looks good on its appearace but won't withstand years of use.

Hi Jeremy,
You should really try to contact Auke again. I have dealt with him and he has been extremely helpful and very professional. I can't imagine him not taking care of a problem. Good Luck! Rudy

The cups do come with a DVD, I haven't watched it yet, so I'm not sure if it's a routine or not. But it seems odd that they would not include a routine for such unique cups. I've had mine for about 2 weeks and the craftsmanship/engineering on these cups are unbelievable. Well done Auk! Never a dissapointment with your cups

Didn't receive the DVD -- I'll need to reach out to Auke! (picked mine up at the Boston SAM Convention...)

Where's Bill Palmer? I would think this would be of interest to him.

Can someone explain how these cups stack? It seems to me the only way to properly stack them during a routine is to reverse their order from the nest.
Also, do you think these are worth $700? I can think of some nice things to drop that kind of dough on. They definitely look interesting though. |

I don't have the DVD, which is ironic, because I have the first sets of these that were sold. I kept the small set off the web site until Mark came out with a routine. I got the first jumbo set as well.
Basically, you do the C&B as you normally would, being careful of the order, until the end, at which time, you stack them in the correct sequence to make the magic happen. Strong final loads would be the keyword here.

I saw Mark Mason demo these. The quality looked very good, but for me, I think it's overkill. Mark explained that with proper misdirection, it could look like the cups disappeared one at a time. This is true but every time I saw him demo it, the cups made a metal on metal sound as they were nesting. Even with proper misdirection, a spectator is going to be drawn to the sound (as I was). Not sure if it's even necessary, but if you like this sort of thing, the cups looked good.

Just used in a competition with no issue with the sound. Overkill? All depends upon what you're looking to do. Technically, however, they worked like a charm.
My 12 year old daughter came up with the idea on how to get around any "talking" -- recommended that I just ask the volunteer a question while making the move. Worked beautifully -- in one case volunteer didn't ever realized that a cup had vanished until I asked her if she'd like me to make one do so, snapped my fingers, and using my eyes indicated that she should look back down towards the table -- wonderful gasp of surprise came forth Again, might not be everyone's "cup of tea," but don't avoid because you don't think its workable.... Scott (Bill, respect your views towards the loads. That's how Auke demo'd to me. Personally used some other carefully routined misdirection, and worked beautifully) |

I saw mark dem what these can do at FFFF and I must say I was very very impressed, there was hardly any talking due to the suction caused when nesting them, they are such a snug fit that when they slide the noise is hardly anything.
The idea of making one cup vanish at a ime is brilliant and with the right misdirection works very well indeed. As ever with Auke's stuff the quality is supurb! Steve Dela |

Any danger of the cups getting stuck?

If you have a problem with Auke, e-mail him. Or phone him. His phone numbers are on his web site. I can only hope that after this long you have finally gotten your problem resolved. There are two different sets of the cups, normal and jumbo. They are very solidly made. When the nesting has occurred, you can easily lift them off the table as a unit. They are also very durable. As the ad states, they are made from a solid block of stainless steel. I have the first set of each version that Auke made. I actually dropped the normal sized set a couple of weeks ago, and they still nest perfectly in any orientation.
