Hi, I bought a quarter(exactly the same as butter coin but with no dvd) at a Philadelphia magic shop a couple of years ago. Irv (the owner) claimed it was his invention then. Now that Butter Coin came out, he is no longer selling the gimmicked quarters. I have also heard Alex has stolen the idea from irv. Can anyone verify this?

Isn't the "Butter Coin" a plain old Flipper?

I think what I have read from other posts is that the butter coin is a flipper, rub away, and a folding coin all in one.

This coin was published in 1910 in a book called "The Art of Modern Conjuring and Drawing Room Entertainment".
HERE is an excerpt in an Adobe Acrobat .pdf file that talks about the gimmick, as well as using it with another coin in a fan to make it look like an extra coin. This move was popularized with David Roth's folding coins through the table. Read the trick entitled "The Diminishing Coins" and see photographs 3 and 4 in the linked file. |

Perhaps the term "reinvented" would be more appropriate?

Doesn't Precision Magic have a flipper/bite/folding coin also, as said it's not a new term?

So it's a single cut folder?
Hell, I had some of those cut the month Roth's Expert Coin Magic was released, just for use with Folding Coins Through The Table routine |

There is some application of that gaff, though also has a pin for a sort of visible coin through hat in Downs's book.

Lame? Lame?! I get a good SOLID ten minutes out of that. It's my signature effect.
Of course, it's all in the presentation... |

How many folks found the visible coin through hat in the old books?
Did you also notice how close that coin trick Dan showed is to a visible coins across? Thanks Dan.
