I am trying to obtain a couple of double faced cards for use in conjunction with the Koran 5 star prediction deck. I have gone through 6 double face decks and it seems as though they repeat. I am wondering whether the US playing card company makes all combinations of double facers or whether the one's I have represent the diversity available.
Also any suggestions as to where I may obtain double face cards with specific faces (Gary Plants and Martin Lester are 2 I came up with) on Bicycle stock. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. |

I think you've answered your own question! All the 'normal' Bicycle double faced decks are identical with the royal clubs/diamonds being same both sides.

Pick up "The Art of Card Splitting" DVD by Marty Grams and make your own. Card splitting is not that hard and with this DVD you will learn from a master. Plus it's fun once you learn how and you'll earn the satisfaction of using a gaff that you created. Plus, Marty demos and teaches 10 bonus tricks that you can do with the gaffs that you produce. Check it out!

What color backs do you want on these?

I second what KRZ4kardz said. I just picked up this DVD and it's well worth it. I won't probably bother with making my own DB's. But for specific gaffs like DF's or diagonal cards this DVD is invaluable. It has some nice little tricks on it too. The one with the flash light is great!

Chalk up another recommendation for Marty Grams' DVD (you may even want to buy his "Lickety Split" notes to accompany it, but the DVD has all you'll need). Study well and practice lots, and this will solve pretty much all of your current and future gaffing needs (not to mention, it's a cool/fun skill to acquire).
Best of luck! |

I prefer blue-back double-facers.

"What colour backs?..." "....blue backs..." C'mon guys, it was a serious question. Old joke!

I seriously thought rivmagic meant a Double Facer made by pasting two blue backed cards back to back without peeling off.

Then you would have a thick DF key card.

48 years ago, I used such thick DF card in real performance as I didn't know peeling off.

I must admit too, in my early days I performed with DB's and DF's that were merely two cards glued together. I couldn't understand why I was caught so frequently.

Koran used two cards glued back to back. I've done this trick many times with two cards glued back to back and never had any problems, since the specs never touch the card.
If it's good enough for Koran, it's good enough for me. You really don't need double facers to do this. |

Here's a question for the card splitters:
What effect does the age of the deck have on the ability to split the cards. Is it easier with cards from a brand new deck or is an older one better? |

Cards should be brand new.

You don't realize how many people still fall for that "old joke".

Do split cards still have that air-cushion finish or is it lost in construction?

Split cards will still have the finish (sheen) but will feel different. I have been making gaffed cards for many years and the feel will depend on the method you use to make the double facer. The marty grams dvd is good source to learn how to make double facers fairly quickly, but that method produces cards that have never felt quite right to me. Of course that is my opinion, I am sure other people will disagree. I prefer the heat method. Todd Lassen (www.toddlassen.com) has a little device - lassen card gaffing genii - you can use to create gaffed cards that uses heat from an iron and dry mount paper to bond the layers of cards. I have never used one but my friend has one and he loves it. I have seen some of the cards he's made using the genii and they feel pretty good. I use a more expensive method to bond the layers with heat.

...care to elaborate a bit more on your process and describe the difference with the more expensive method?
