From what I heard the show(s) were cancelled due to financial reasons. I saw the show at the Michigan Theatre and was shocked by the lack of ticket sales and to be frank was not impressed with the quality of the performance. No act can stay on the road with low attendance such as this. It seemed to be the same trend across the board with other venues. Entertainment in any form is a very difficult business these days. I'm sure this is a reason more acts are not touring. I've seen other acts that do so such as The Spencers and they've been very successful for themselves. Years and years of hard word on their end has paid off and I'm sure they work harder today than every before. Maybe there are more magic acts out there but I haven't seen or heard of them touring. Entertainment is not a glory business as people may think, it's a very tough business. I myself have been involved in the performing arts for over thirty years. I've acted, danced, sang, and even worked on the business side for some smaller stages throughout my home state of Michigan. I've seen many acts fail and many succeed. It's a delicate formula. It seemed to me the ones that failed didn't understand the business side of things, they just wanted to be stars in their own minds and they were for a night but it cost them dearly.

Ouch .. that's why I'm staying at home, for lack of talent of course.
If anything .. these guys and girls went out full force with their heart and souls into this project. This was a 16 date tour in four weeks .. a huge undertaking. I'm a weekend warrior .. that's the only way to survive right now. We go out do the gig, then return home. The Spencers do have it figured out .. they're only one of the few surviving act that actually travel on the road. Everyone else puts up their imaginiary tour schedules .. including myself. Nothing like telling it like it is .. but these are good people and I'm sure they gave it their best shot .. Steve |

I was not commenting on the people involved. I'm sure they are great people. Many artists today have burning passions and desires for their goals as peformers. I was merely discussing my observations and the information I was informed. There is something to be said for those who actually give things a try and learn in the process. It's the only way to evolve. This project seems to be a huge undertaking and I just don't see how it could have worked from the start.

Hey Chezaday! I went to see a show on your "TOUR" schedule and that venue didn't even exist! You're taking this imaginary tour schedule thing to a new level. Or....did you and Franz make the venue disappear?? Hmmm........

You got me ... I confess .. it's all made up, that's why I'm sitting here on the Café again. I think I have a birthday show coming up next week .. maybe we can sneak you in .. just show up at the door with a gift and it will be cool.
And once again .. I've got nothing to do tonight because I was going to Merriville to see the show .. Steve |

Now that we're way off the subject .. let's get back on track here. I can understand if the show had poor production values with an overpriced ticket .. but I don't think that would be the case here. I believe the tickets for the Twins tour was more than reasonable .. I think prices ranged from $10-$20 at all the venues. I've been burnt before .. in fact I'll tell you a little story.
My good friend Dan Sperry and I went to see a show near by at a local theater. I"m not going to mention any names here .. but you know who you are. The show was amateur at best .. with bed sheets as curtains, and the typical Copperfield pre-show music .. I knew we were in for a real treat. Anyway .. what really gets me, even to this day .. is that they were charging $25.00 a ticket. The show was such a joke I even sent an e-mail to the theater. I received a response from the theater manager .. who agreed with me. Unfortunately I didn't get a refund, but for comp tickets to another bad production. I still want my $25.00 back .. Steve Steve |

You can't bail out on me now .. speak up Sperry, you were there. I speak the truth .. and I'm always up for some "bad magic" but this went way beyond that. Besides .. he owes you $50.00 because you had a chick with. I'd be twice as mad .. now speak up and tell it like it is ..

This could have been an easy solution to being worn out the next day? One may want to consider; a logistic manager to handle these type of problem(s), and a publicist to handle the promotions to get tickets sales a bit higher... Just a thought or two.... Cheers

Well I talked with a couple people now from two different shows and I guess each show only had around 35-40 people. that's too bad, was really looking forward to seeing it here.
Well best of luck to you in future endeavors Kline, hope to see you back on the road soon! |

Brian,
Thanks - please keep in mind that I was brought on board to produce the show - I had VERY little to do with booking the venues or marketing. This is a VERY tough business. The schedule was VERY tight. The only show that was less that 100 was Maumee - unfortunately, we hit a market that had been swamped with magic over the past several weeks - the Toledo Convention played the exact same theater - Kreskin was in town the night before and the local club had their annual close up show the exact same day. Now it is tough to survive with attendance like that but I honestly feel that there is potential, I have been on the road for many years with as large of a production that we had this time.In fact, I have also taken this large of a show to the other side of the world, however, for what ever reason all of you may "hear" or "know" or "assume" the simple fact that it even happened gives a GREAT deal of merit to those involved. I'm not trying to pat myself on the back here - I was not the only one involved with this production - the others deserve a great deal of kudos. A HUGE amount of sweat and tears went into this and I'm not quite sure many of you understand the mountain that had to be concured to even get the show on the road. Please do me a favor and think before you are too quick to judge those who have tried and not succeeded as opposed to those of you who have not even tried at all. Just my thoughts !

Exactly where did I judge, and where are you getting the fact that I've tried and 'not succeeded?' You addressed the entire post to "Brian," so I can only assume you are talking to me. Based on all the other responses I'm a little curious why you singled me out and think I'm judging. I asked sincerely about it, and was wishing you good luck. Perhaps you should care less what people think--then you wouldnt feel the need to posture everything. I don't care how much or little you had to do with it as I'm not judging you as a person. However, it is always interesting how with most people when things are good it's we and when things go bad it's they. And while its a moot point, I find it hard to believe that two friends who were at two of the three shows both independently lied, but whatever. (especially the one who was not at the Maumee show) Either way, I still sincerely say good luck in future endeavors. |

Brian,
Good point when you stated: Quote:

Brian,
I did not mean to point fingers at you - I simply started to type and got off on a rampage. for that I am sorry - I did stop a few times and re read the posts above which led me to simply rant. I'm not saying anyone lied - I was there! St Marys had approx 125 people and the Michigan theater had approx 225 - these are the numbers I was told and did see for myself. I appreciate your thoughfulness on my (our) future endeavors and hope to see you in the audience soon. Posted: Apr 13, 2006 2:41pm ----------------------------------------- Gloated in glory? Curtis, I am very proud of what was created - this is an extremely tough business - the product that was created is a worthy one - unfortunately, selling it is the hard part. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone here -
