Well I do the coin in can and have never done the coin in bottle routine. I was just wondering what kind of reaction do you get with coin in the bottle? Or for those whom have done both what gets the better reaction? I just thought I would ask. I get great reactions from the coin in can routine.

Wow, that's going to be a hard one to answer because the reaction to any effect is based on much more than just the particular props used. When I perform coin in bottle, I get more applause, and when I perform bottlecap in bottle, I get more reactions of disbelief. In my opinion, the differences in the reactions are based much more on the particular routines than on the particular props.

It's my own routine using Rey Ben's gimmick. At the conclusion of the routine, I give the spectator the bottle with the cap trapped inside as a souvenir.

Joey,
Coin in bottle will play for larger audiences. The visiblity of the coin (inside a transparent bottle), the sound of metal on glass carries well, and bottles are known for their inflexability. I hope that helps some. JH |

I only do the coin in can (as seen on Mindfreak) and the reactions have been great so far.
I do it mainly as an impromptu effect with the can taken direct from the soda machine. I did see a coin in bottle done with a devil's bottle the other day. Very nice effect. Gives a reason for the object to be in the bottle. The routine was great. Coin penetrates in to the bottle. To get the coin out the bottle breaks under the power of the magi's mind. Very nice!

While I have a coin in bottle effect (not sure which one many who are posting are using)the one I use employs the use of a prop that needs setup and some manipulation after the coin penetrates. To ditch the gimmick, always seems somewhat unnatural to me to some extent.
To me the coin in can is great, as there is no setup and no gimmicks to worry about after the penetration. Unlike my coin in bottle, I use their can, their coin, and their marker, if they have one. The visual impact of the 2 are similar, although I still get better reactions in my opinion with coin in can. That may be that I feel more comfortable with it, but that also accounts for something, as well. Since I use coin in can, I do not do coin in bottle anymore, as it is redundant in my opinion. Since coin in can is so powerful, there is no need to go elsewhere. Hope that this helps. Bob. |

I like the coin in can routine for its simplicity, but Mike Powers' cap in bottle routine is slick and ends with the cap stuck in the bottle. I agree with Larry Davidson above - the bottle makes a great souvenir.

Coin in Soda can is good and gets good reaction from audience. It's just a little messy, though.

I love coin in soda can but it certainly IS messy and you don't always find cans of pop in restaurants. On the other hand, hauling around a bottle is somewhat of a pain when doing walkaround...still haven't found a great place to keep it.

Abyss is already pretty good. You put the coin inside the bottle, and you can immediately hand out the bottle for examination. The quarter does not fit through the top of the bottle.

Just recieved my coin in soda can. It is GOOD. It's one of the few tricks you can do with no gimmick and no set up. Is it worth $30? I don't know, is gasoline worth $3.00 a gallon?
If you get this one, practice with an empty can. I dropped mine last night and had a big mess to clean up when it exploded. |

Yes I do think that sinful was worth the price. It is a great trick.
On a different note anybody know this effect? It is a cap in bottle effect but it is a plastic cap and bottle. What happens if you take the cap in one hand and slam it into the bottle at it's base. Ring a bell to anyone?

Topit? It would cause problems if you normally use one for other things ( coins etc. Talking!) Michael Ammar has a great production and vanish of the bottle for the coin in the bottle effect (the original one with the glass bottle) It's on the DVD of his lecture at the magic castle. It's a very nice routine, producing your props then vanishing them after you've finished. This routine would play well for close-up or stand-up. Certainly not impromptu though. I like the original FC coin in bottle for larger audiences. Very visual, very noisy as well and it provides lots of opportunities for business with the spectator. |
