With all the buzz about Cyril, I looked up some more of his highly visual card magic and stumbled onto this gem. Without the use of our handy, dandy search bar, I wasn't able to see if this had already been posted here on the Café.
So I figured I'd share this vid with you guys and ask the question I always ask when viewing Cyril, "How the hell did he do that!!!!!" http://youtube.com/watch?v=psWubDLMhOQ&search=magic

Rob Bromley's "Moving Pips" card is similar. I can't tell how he switches it for the real Six of Diamonds at the end, though.

You can't tell what switch was used because of editing. I'd probably use a top change if I were performing the effect.
The initial selection of the card is a marketed item. I'm a big fan of Cyril's, and although I think that this effect is good, I think that a lot of his other work is much stronger. |

Although it's difficult to tell, he doesn't seem to pick up the deck for a top change. I could be wrong. There's certainly no motivation to pick up the deck again. It looks like he's holding the prediction envelope right after the switch to me.
IMO, this is a very strong card trick for laymen, but that switch has got to be good. Who can tell with all the cuts and editing? Robert |

The best switch is done in the works of editing
There are millinos (well okay not millions but you know what I mean) of other ways to get the switch done other than from a deck. Remember gents, anything goes when you are out there doing singles like these. Top change would be the top chocie for any REAL WORKING people who needs solution but for TV spots even without any editing, you are on stage doing a trick in front of TV stars who will not be able to make you look too bad (I.e. No heckling too much or being an ***.) With that bein said, there are no rules in this. Period. Meh.. Btw, I wouldnt really go with a top change either if I was to do this routine. Probably switch it out differently |

This sort of speculation ruffled all sorts of feathers in the Armando Lucero thread.

I'm not sure that's a difference, in principle. It's either public domain about which to speculate, or it "belongs" to the person who created it, regardless of how much or how little he uses it.

The moving pip card is not Cyril's invention. We're just speculating about the switch at the end. On the other hand, if this is exposure then perhaps I shouldn't have asked.

Robert, I should probably know in about a month or so if the project is doable...here's crossing my fingers.

Algebra2,
Yes, that's a "real" audience. The Japanese are a great audience... because they rarely, if ever, heckle. I've performed impromptu magic on unsuspecting people many times over there and get similar reactions every time. It's great. /M |

I think Japanese people are not so congenitally flashy in reacting to Magic, but they have been trained recently by seeing TV magic shows frequently.

Just a note on Cyril. I have seen him many times on TV here in Japan and he does some neat stuff and he does some frankly generic stuff, but he always does it well. I just loved a finish he did with a card restoration to a card in a sealed deck where he ended up riffling the deck into a reflection pond and the chosen card was the only card face up. I am an absolute beginner, but I can think of one very quick way to pull that one off. I don't know if there is a difficult and ingenious way, but either way, who is going to jump into the reflection pond and check backs and faces on national TV? I love it!

Benjabone, Cyril does everything well whether it's a "generic" effect (which laymen wouldn't know anyway) or something unique. He's a truly gifted magician.
