The new BudK catalog has some great swords to use in this effect, and I published the secret to turning one of them into a Sword in the Stone recreation, so you can tell the story of young King Arthur and then have the youngsters in the audience line up to try to pull the sword from the stone... under your control so that the littlest kid can pull it out when even adults can't manage it.
The instructions are in the Secret Sarcophagus on The Magic Nook Forum if you don't have your own favorite method. You'll also find links to the new BudK catalog there.

That would be sooo sweet... Get it on video if someone ever does it, not my style, but I'd love to see it performed!!

I did an original Sword in the Stone Illusion at the Texas Renaissance Festival during 1998 and 1999. I had three assistants, Igor, Nimuë and Morgan LeFay. I 'splained the power of the sword in the stone, and against my better judgment, Nim pulled it out of the stone. The stone then turned into Morgan LeFay. It was very strong, performed surrounded 270 degrees on a basically open stage.
The props are now in the possession of Tom Crecelius, the Merlin of Mill Town.
