Say you were strolling down the boardwalk one fine sunny day and suddenly a black cloud form's above your head. There is a large plume of dark purple smoke in front of you and out of nowhere a voodoo witch-doctor appear's and instantly places a curse upon you. "Because your magic is so powerful" he said, "I must bind and limit your powers forever....." He places a curse on you limiting your ability to perform card magic to just three routines/effects, and three only. Even though he has cursed you, he allows you to choose the three effects. Once chosen, every other card trick that you have ever learned or seen will disappear out of your mind forever; wiped from existence.

What three effects would you choose?

Probably Sponge Bunnies x3... its just that good.

Or you could just search for one of the other THIRTY BAZILLIAN times a "top 3 card effects" thread has been posted.

Or.... you can just answer the question again, or go off to another thread.

If the same topic was only posted once or twice on this forum and that was it, then there'd be no reason to even go to the forum because every topic would have been exhausted by now don't you think? Especially with 20,000+ members.

BTW, sponge bunnies is not a card trick.

I'm not really a big card guy, but if I had to choose I would choose some version of the 2 Card Monte (I like Dave Williamson's version in Magic Farm), the Ambitious Card and perhaps Torn (Daniel Garcia).

But then again... perhaps Ambitious Card, Invisible Palm and some version of a Triumph routine...

or maybe... aaargh I can't choose...

I'd chose "the trick that can't be explained". I can work an entire evening doing that trick Smile

Christian,

Where is "the trick that can't be explained" found?

Why does everyone do this? I'm guessing there is a lot of boredom out there in magic land. Magic effects should be chosen based on their relevance to the particular magician's style and character. For much, but not all of my work, I use Triumph, A variation of the Chicago Opener, using no stranger card, sure it has a name, don't know it, and The bottom Drop ambitous move, again, sure it has a name, don't know it.

Would probably say,
1 - Out of This World - By Paul Curry of course.
2 - Premonition - by Eddie Joseph
3 - The Lazy Magicians Card trick ( I believe that is the title )
Of course many more, but these are old faithful standards that I enjoy doing.

The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

No. I mean Yes. I mean No. I mean..

Anyway, "The Anything Deck" (or perhaps some variation of it---I don't know) has remained in my mind as one of the greatest "card" tricks ever. The rush I get from that final revelation has replaced my 'need for attention' as my main reason for doing magic.

Aaaaaaghggh!! Don't you just love these posts! I wondered how long it would be, after the search facility was restored, before someone got 'smart' and did the THIRTY BAZILIANTH reference to "go and search." Magicians helping magicians eh? Ha!

Anyway, here's my three:

Degrees of Freedom (John Bannon)
Twins (Bro Hamman)
Dave's Dotty Spots (Dave Campbell)

It was difficult leaving Dr Daley out of that lot Smile

OK, just for the halibut...

1. Red Hot Mamma with a few of my own quirks
2. Ambitious Card, done my way
3. Out Of This World, exactly as it came in the printed manuscript I bought 30 years ago. (Tricky to improve on, and I know there's loads of variations, I have tried many and still come back to the original.)

I agree with Whizzomagics logic of re-posting. Anyhow, my 3 would be
1.) My Ambitious card/mele routine
2.) CAAN by Dan Garcia
3.) Queens Transpo in my upcoming book

I'd only need to pick 2:
1. My in-the-hands variation of Switchcraft
2. The Ambitious Card, of course
