Well, I might get flamed for this ... but this man is a JERK!!!!! I had the misfortune of working a detail for DC many years back for several nights, and the guy has "God Mentality", and treated everyone in his show horribly! Not only his crew, but the management and employees of the venue he was working ... ME INCLUDED!
I have great respect for what the man has accompolished ... but for the man himself ... ZERO!

Well, guess I can say it too- I worked backstage on his show when he came through my town about twelve years ago (when he was still married to a certain famous model.) Based on how he acted backstage (and the mortal terror the entire stage crew lived in, constantly fearing for their jobs), there's pretty much one word I've used to describe him ever since.
"Twerp."

Everyone has a bad night. At one point EVERYONE becomes 'Over It' and to be honest it didn't really sound that bad to me. Big Dave is certainly not the sort of performer who puts his audience DOWN but he has been known to do things LIKE that repetative "Do you speak English" thing in the past. He's no angel. there have been loads of times that he has made an audience member look a LITTLE stupid on TV in the past.
1 What....is...your....favourite...colour?? 2 Don't you mean harvaaay? 3 Dick! and these were all in the SAME routine. It;s just opportunist comedy. He has a GREAT gift for improvisational comedy. It's fine. You'll live. The sand thing sounds a little more serious though. I wouldn't fancy being covered in sand much. Unless I was lying naked on a Thai beach drinking a strawberry dakari and a naked early 80s Jenny Agutter was doing the pouring (sand AND dakari that is) |

Glass of water, get into a harness, follow the direction of your multimedia extravaganza. remember that Big Dave is not just blagging it. the show has been Directed with the video show in mind. It's jazzy and memorable. You have to have some time of stage, I was in a play (morning schools perf of Macbeth) with a guy who had had a skinfull the night before. The dude had to CREATE exits for himself in order to vomit in a bucket in the wings. Jeez that was a funny sight. He would suddenly say something like. But look the king! and exit. lol. |

I have seen these platitudes for the big "D". But why? does he or does he not deliver?" Either he puts on a show for "all" of us. Or he puts on a show for just the selected "few"? If he is on then, he is on, if he is off then he is off. Just because he is a named act does not meam that he is above scrutiny. Why don't we just say that the performer is good or not? There have been a few of magis here that have expressed that opinion.

Hi Edh:
I think with Copperfield, it's a little bit different because of his outstanding magic. I think most (or maybe a lot) of people leave with the thought, "That guy was truely amazing. He just made a car appear and then made 12 people from the audience disappear. Amazing! He sure is an arrogant schmuck, though." Ron |

I've been convinced that Copperfield has jumped the shark for years. I've seen him in person five times since 1994, and each time was worse than the last. When he lets a blasphemous exclamation go, or when he uses sexual innuendo, or when he acts snarky to audience members, then I long for the days when he would bring a young child up on stage and do an illusion with Webster the duck.
He ought to take a year off and reread his Fitzkee and relearn what true showmanship is like. Carrie |
