Do remember, though, that that is not the main point of the puzzle. The fact is that a "meeting" position will exisit no matter how much the man's speed changes over time during both journeys. It is that fact that is the one that seems strange at first glance.

Hehehe, yes, this puzzle I've always seen as "walks at random speeds and take a break that is about 10 minutes." I thought that steadily meant "at a brisk pace" but not that it was absolutely constant in any way.
