Jamie D. Grant V.I.P. as seen in Ripley's Believe It or Not! Twice! 2413 Posts |
Hi Everyone,
I finally put together my website (which I did myself) and am looking for thoughts overall, but primarily on the opening picture. It was commented in the 'Tricky Business' section that it might not be a good first impression... Any Thoughts? Jamie D. Grant

While I like the caricature it somehow doesn't fit with the rest of the site's style.
Maybe it's because of the first paragraph on the 'About' page and words like prestigious and virtuoso there. I always felt that splash pages were a waste and that people want some quick info. You 'About' page would do nicely as a main page. Also if it matters to you, all text are graphics and not readable by search engine. |

I think splash pages are a waste of time also. All together the site isn't bad.
If it was me. I would add music to the site. |

I'm not a big fan of splash pages myself but I think yours works fine. I quite like it.
The only things missing from the splash page are a title (at the top of the browser – at the moments yours just says 'index'), an ALT tag for the main image (place your cursor over the Magic Café logo at the top of this page and see the text that shows up - that's due to the ALT tag and helps some search engines 'see' what the image is), and finally some keywords in the HTML which also helps some search engines list your site. I wouldn't add music to the site.

Hi Jamie:I like your site very much.It is concise, clear, and elegant. However,I agree with Jaz regarding the caricature.I think a black and white cariacature(not as exagerrated)would fit better.Or maybe just a nice headshot.Best.

I think the caricature is good, but you'd be better off with a good photo: I think it looks more professional. And FWIW, no music.

I like the caricature. It shows a playful side as well as business. The layout is very concise and user-friendly. I personally like a little more on the bio so that you can create that connection with the viewers. Great job, Jamie!
