My sister made this one up....

Take the cards and shuffle and let them pick a card, any card. Let them take the deck and shuffle until they see fit. Take back the cards and cut to a random spot. Then say
"Not only have I cut the deck to your exact card..." (Pick the top card off and read it) "But I have also transformed it into the ----" and read off the new card.

Great for older adults.. Little kids don't get it.. (Hey, they might think it is another real trick and actually be impressed.)

I just thought it was hilarious and use it in the middle of my routine. All credit goes to ASHTON HUNLEY!

Didn't the late great Tommy Cooper have a gag where he would have a card selected and irretrievably lost and attempt to find it a couple of times, then ultimately spring the deck at the spectator and ask them to find it... just a thought

Sorry, this old gag has been around for decades (if not centuries) and it's been a part of Amazing Jonathan's act for almost as long.

It isn't really a good joke, but I've seen it get a laugh. It's better when it's mixed into a trick that actually DOES work.

This always draws a major laugh:
Have someone pick a card; the card is returned and they shuffle the deck and table it.
You pick up the deck and recap; then turn over the top card: "Is this your card?"
They will say "no".
Toss the deck on the table as you say, "Then find the ***ed thing yourself!"
Okay, it plays better than it reads.

Yes, sorry, Daniel. I saw The Amazing Jonathan perform this one almost 10 years ago. Worked well for him, though.

You said your sister made it up. Even if Jonathan and TC hadn't thought of it or used it, wouldn't credit go to her?
Sorry Daniel, better luck next time.
If anyone sees my sanity, please return it to

me.

Well.. She is creative. Maybe I will ask her if she had watched that before. I don't think so, though.. She was being a smart aleck because I kept trying to show her too many card tricks.

It's entirely possible -- probable, even -- that your sister came up with the line independently.
Just because it has been used many times before does not mean (a) that she couldn't make it up on her own; and (b) that it isn't funny (it is!).
A lot of "name" magicians (among others) agonize, to the point of a public feud, over who thought of what first.
It was as if they had never heard of "parallel lines of development" or were incapable of believing that anyone else could have come up with "their baby"!
Nonsense!

Hey! quit making fun of us young folks and we won't make fun of you geezers! Smile

Well, she did make it up independently. (So she says) But I trust her. Anyway.. It isn't even a real magic trick, It is just something fun to add to your routine when things start to get a little dry. But oh well..

This is the main reason why a joke cannot be copyrighted. It is quite possible two people can come up with the same line.

Now a whole book of lines exactly in the same order and saying the same thing, ... unlikely!

Here's another corny one but one I still use for fun sometimes. You hold a deck up with one hand showing the faces...you have three black cards followed by one red card. You tell them "Red is fire. Black is coal. What's this?" They'll say coal each time as you remove the card. When they get to the red one and say "fire"...riffle off the deck at them! (Now the consequence of the trick is you have to play fifty two pick up, but it's always been worth it...I usually make a joke about me having to pick them all up and who's the joke on now and stuff. Basically, I bust myself on having to pick them up before they do...hey, we all gotta save face, right? Smile

I use a giant coin as a table trick. I tell my victim (what's the proper word here anyway) to look at the face on the coin and point to the direction he is looking. I then ask if they would like to see me make him look the other way. When they say YES, I cover the coin with my hand and have them say the magic words. I then lift my hand and reveal the coin as it was before. Then I spin the coin around the other direction so the face is now upside down and the guy is looking the other way.

They always say something like "That's not a magic trick" to which I reply "I never said it was magic, I said I would make him look the other way."

I've even been asked to do it again at the same table when they have been joined by a guest. Go figure, the easiest gag is the most requested.

That is a pretty cool coin gag. I had this kid about 6 years old come into the restaurant I work at and showed me a jumbo coin he found in the sandbox at school. That would have been cool to do with his coin. If he shows back up with it, being he is a regular, (with his family of course) I will do that for him.
Cool Idea
