Just signed up to the boards today and figured this was the first place to start.
I've been practicing magic as a hobby for about 6 years now. I do occasional birthdays and family parties, but nothing regular or serious. I've recently found myself recharged with the hobby and found myself with a few questions that I wanted to ask people with no idea who to talk to. So after some searching around, I found this board and thought I'd try it out. Hopefully some answers may be found, and I might be able to contribute where I can as well. |

Welcome to the Café'. You have come to the greatest place on earth, well after Disneyland. I know you will find lots of people to ask your questions to. This is a great place to come and learn and also teach others. Jump in and post things in some of the forums here and you will find some of the friendlist people on earth. Most are here to help and will always lead you to the right answer. You did not say what type of magic you do but there is something for everyone here. Wow and to think I don't even get paid for saying all of this..
I tell all the new people I say hi to: "Sit down, fasten your seat belt, and hang on, you are in for the greatest ride around". Steven |

Welcome Gumby,
I'm fairly new to magic and to the Café -- but I've had a ball reading all the posts and putting in my 2 cents. (Actually I've mostly been asking for advice. : ) What are some of the questions you have? -Daniel |

What magic do I do? I started doing close-up, cards and flourishes, rubber bands, sponge ball, etc. I also dabble in balloon sculpting (mostly basic stuff) and contact juggling. For my own magical enjoyment, I really like stuff that doesn't look magical. Just ordinary objects doing amazing things (I know sponge balls don't fit that category.)
Right now my main focus, though, is to put together a really strong kids show for birthdays--especially stuff that will involve a lot of giggling and participation. For this I make exception to my ordinary items preference, because I want things to be much more visually appealing for the younger children. Questions that brought me to this forum currently: -Building or finding some type of small pressure switch/toe switch to control a magic radio. -Tricks and routines which involve puppets. (Specifically Bobo the Magic Bear, as well as something similar to Bill Abbot's Chico the monkey routine.) -I also noticed Daniel Garcia is or has been on these boards. I bought his "Next" notes and have had a real hard time deciphering his "Stretch" routine, which I'd really love to figure out. I could probably think of a dozen others, but I'll stop there for now. |
