After a lot of research and soul-searching, I'm going to try taking out an act that consists of...
two three foot silks and an appearing pool cue. Yes, I know what you're thinking. I can hear hundreds of you screaming "YOU FOOL!" at the monitor. We'll see how it goes in a little over a week's time. Tobias! (*the idiot's progress continues*)

That was Lucky Bob. I actually worked with him last night at a gig. Lucky Bob no longer does that act and has created a juggling show, and amazing juggling show I might add.
I am also no longer closing with the cups and balls, for a bunch of reasons. Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! Well, there are a lot of reasons. I guess the most politic way would be to say I am trying to find my own path. I will say there is a lot to be learned and a lot of satisfaction in the journey of finding what works for you and realizing that any trick if it suits you can be a closer.
As for what I am closing with I really do not want to say at the moment. There are a lot of reasons for that as well. Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! I'll bet Danny is closing by "streaking" back and forth accross the plaza
and they pay him big bucks to put his clothes back on.

Frank! You said you would never tell! It is not exactly streaking, I paint eyes on my chest and put lipstick around my belly button and have a giant top hat that covers my head and shoulders while playing the soundtrack to "A bridge too far" as my belly button whistles along.

The Aristocrats *fingersnap*!
Danny - I've been recovering from a northerly migration. I've been scouting out the Market venues out here in Oregon and will be inflicting whatever the heck it is I do on the Portland Saturday Market in a couple weeks. Pray for me. Heck, pray for THEM.

Awww maaan! You guys are gonna make me believe ya one of these days.
ANYWAY... armed with Mr. Driver's bally and two 3' silks, I'm going to attempt to hit the streets up here in Portland. The routine (and it *is* a routine, suprisingly) builds up from basic sleight of hand to Magician Risking Well-Being For Amusement of Others. The idea came to me after I slogged my usual Ren Kit up a snowy hill in Angels Camp and realized that yes, I had walked into my father's childhood. Uphill. In the snow. And due to the topography of the fairgrouds - BOTH WAYS. So, sloth combines with cheapness to create the silks act. Two big silks and a pool cue, 10-15 minutes of goofiness. Again, now we gotta see if it'll work in front of people I'm not married to. I'll have a report a week from Saturday, gang. Tobias! ps - For the record, thaisilks.com is a brilliant source for already hemmed BIG silks - they're very high quality, high-mome (which means they won't pack as tight as the ones we get from Ye Magic Shoppe) which are jaw-droppingly cheap. I paid US$3.50 a piece for 3' x 3' hand-rolled-hem silks. And their scarves - 1' x 4' - are $2.10. Highly, highly, highly recommended. They're also a great source for a number of other nifty fabric items.

In the above posts several people mentioned some great ideas such as: Cards, Juggling, Linking Rings, Billiard Balls, Silks, Rope and Escapes. These are great replacements for a Cups & Ball routine. Some other effects that you could do are Coin Magic, Mentalism and Illusions. How about doing a Chop Cup routine? It's a lot simpler than the Cups & Balls. There is a lot of different types of magic to choose from and you should be able to easily replace a Cups & Balls routine with something else that you like to do.
