Hi everyone- what is the best ending for the cups and balls trick? I like Jennings but are there other good ones out there?
Ask me about Dan Harlan's Jam Sessions!

There is no overall best, it is what best fits you. You could ask the opinon of which ending each performer likes best but like all tricks, there is no best. I do remember seeing water in glasses for final loads. It was very nice.

Water glasses are interesting. They are a mainstay of the National Water Cups. Unfortunately, these cups are both messy and expensive. They are also quite cumbersome, due to the nature of their construction.
There are other methods, though. I don't like the bag the cups came in as a final load. I also do not like vanishing a dollar bill and then producing a lemon under a cup as a final load to a cup routine and finding the dollar bill inside it. That's fine for magicians, but for the lay public it obfuscates the endings of both routines.

How about 3 big lemons... No kidding
Fruit is a timeless classic. Suprising and definitly effective. I used billard balls and now I use big yellow rubber balls. The simple rule. As long a the final load is bigger than the original balls you will do fine. |

Hamsters make bad loads. They bite.

I think that if you do things like a solid cup are very strong.
Vanishing the cups as jennings did is also very strong. The regular final loads be it fruit or balls is also strong. I hate working with animals so Thnaks for the info on the hamsters ...they are now off my list of final loads forever. Later, Mobius |

Good thinking, Mike.
Now a coral snake, on the other hand, that's impressive.

I've got to give my vote to the Gazzo melon final load....now that's a load! Okay, I realize it isn't exactly the same kind of "final load", but nonetheless......

Greetings and Salutations,
I'm thinking, with just a few moments of thought, that the best ending to the cups and balls is the one where the audience is jumping up and down, screaming, applauding and throwing paper money by the handful at you! Just my $.02 (USD) worth. YMMV Joe in KC "Those who think that magic consists of doing tricks are strangers to magic. I like the general idea of a solid cup. I'm thinking of including some kind of cup switch in the widest sense in my routine. Any ideas on how to accomplish this best? We briefly talked about this when Tim Ellis was here. I don't think his switch at the end of Runaround Sue is ideal ... but I haven't come up with anything better...

I experimented with solid cups, three cups fused together etc... but I found that the audience tended to dismiss them at "gimmicked cups". They needed to examine the cups themselves before they were convinced of what had happened, and even then they weren't nearly as impressed as a large item appearing.
I found though, that the item needs to be surprising... but logical. So that when it appears the audience says "WHAT??!!!" followed quickly by "OF COURSE!" Hope this makes sense.

I used to make an 8 ball drop out of a solid object and they always grabbed for both.
Why not make the last load drop out of a solid cup and then tip the solid cup back much like latimer does in his routine? Plays very strong when done that way. Later, Mobius |

I like lemons the most I have tried other things but lemons or other types of melons get the best reaction for my performance

I like the idea of the first final load being an oversized ball that matches the original mini balls - I feel that you get that mild surprise and the audiance should feel 1 of the ball has grown, producing a miracle that now if the audiance think that there is something under any of the other cups it is going to be the same as the first.
Then for the next 2-3 final loads to be object that are not expected and as fare different as the first load, because now you have created a double headed impact in the way of you have covered both bases in the next stage. If after the first final load they do not expect another well you will have an extra surprise and for the people that do image there may be more of the same then you still knock there socks off as the next loads are possible imagined but not to be what is revealed. Bill,
I'm surprised I beat you to this.... You won Pete's "funniest post" award for that post. With some routines out there... The best ending for their cups and balls routine is to just put the cups back in the bag and walk away.

In my experience, people get floored when you produce one more load than you have cups. My first 3 come rather quickly and the last one is delayed. I very often get applause and I have to bring it back so the 4th load isn't totally missed.
