While coming up with hints for my blanks puzzle, I came up with this easier, but more clever, version. The blanks are related. Fill them in:
We had a surprise entry in our office talent show; The guy from _______ did a _________ routine with paperclips and a pencil cup. Then he did a trick with a "juice deck". By glancing at the _______, he maneuvered 3 special cards to the top. Then by dealing ________ he gave each spectator 3 cards, leaving the 3 special ones on top. If I were dressed like him, I would have done The Haunted Deck.

There's a clue, if you follow directions. Puns of unusual plurals.

Follow directions? As in NSEW?
The guy from NEWS did a NEW trick?

Good thinking, but not NSEW directions. There isn't anything unusual sounding in the sentences ( E.G. The guy from news... sounds odd).

Stanalger just PM'd me 3 of the 4 blanks. All of the blanks have been guessed right (John + Stanangler). Whew. I was getting worried. All the info is there.

I can see that, by dealing "fourths" he would retain the top three cards, so the last blank might by "fourths" but... what are the rest?

OK Mark cashed out, and called the answer "very clever". Anyone else give up?
In my earlier puzzle I had "His reward was a copy of the Paul Giamatti movie _____________. ". This blank holds up structurally to the other blanks and completes the big picture. I left it out because it lacked the quirky plural nature of the other puns.
