Jeff's card DVD's are the best, Tim Wright for balls.
Treat learning from a videos like a class; watch all of the effects first, but not the methods. Take notes on the stuff that looked like real magic and choose what suits you best (you can learn the rest over time). Try to find a good local magician who can teach you and help you with your performance. Also, Juliana Chen's DVD teaches a great method of producing cards.

Oh, man, I remember some of those books, especially Ganson and Buckingham! I darn near wore them out!
Now that you know where to learn the moves, don't forget to start thinking about your onstage persona: who is this guy, and why is he doing cards and billiard balls in the first place? Who is he playing to, and what kind of a response does he want? What would he (not you -- he) say about himself if you sat next to him in a coffee shop? This is what's going to take you beyond just being another guy who's good at manipulation: it'll help turn you into a "personality" in the real sense of the word. It'll help make poeple remember you as much as what you're doing. Good luck!
That's our departed buddy Burt, aka The Great Burtini, doing his famous Cups and Mice routine
