All I can say is BUY THIS MONTH'S ISSUE OF GENII MAGAZINE!!!! It features Arthur Trace whom I saw a video of performing a few years ago. It left a solid impression on me and I never forgot it. The guy is brilliant. His manipulation skills are amazing. Finally, he is sooooo creative.

If you ever get a chance to see him perform, DO IT!

Thanks, Paul. Perhaps many of our magical brethren don't know about Arthur yet (no other responses).

Arthur is a great performer, and person to boot. He's worked very hard to be the very best, and by the looks of it he's well on his way. Those who haven't seen him or heard of him should look him up.

Just saw Arthur work at Collector's last weekend. I worked with him last year at Abbott's. The act is much stronger and tighter now. He sells the act very well.

I think is working the Magic Castle Awards banquet this week.

I think he's actually working with Dan Sperry on an upcoming cable TV series for the Travel Channel .. can't say too much about it right now.

That Sperry is a genius ...

The effects he teaches in Genii are amazing. I love his plots and the relativity change. Here are some online performance videos of the effects in Genii http://www.the-doppler-effect.com/arthur/videos.html

Never heard of him. Does he do Stage or Close-up or both? It would be nice if you mentioned the effects that impressed you. Does a video come with the Genii Magazine?
Dial-up is so slow for the online videos. I don't see a manipulation video on the online reference.

A good introduction to him would be Genii. Arthur Trace won the first place stage competition at the IBM convention in 2005 along with the People's Choice Award, not to mention the rarely given IBM Gold Medal for Excellence in Stage Magic = The Triple Crown.

The effects that impressed me? His manipulation act and every effect published in the Genii magazine. The guy oozes creativity. No video comes with Genii and there is no manipulation video posted online (that I know of). You will have to contact him or else try to catch one of his shows. He is amazing (and I don't say that about too many people).

He may be a good stage manipulator, but the effects of his in Genii are terrible. The worst one is the cups and balls ending. Why would you throw away a miracle of having the fruit appear under the cups to focus on putting three platic rings on the cups? I guess that routine is for magicians.

His actual cups and balls is done with 2 cups, and bells are used as opposed to cups, with the sound vanishing and reappearing. Also in the Genni c and B fruit is still produced.

His parlour act is better than most. Very original and entertaining.

I enjoy the fact that he is a creative thinker and always experimenting with the notion of entertainment first.

Arthur is one of the best manipulators I have seen. I usually fall asleep during acts with billiard balls. No creativity used. He kept me wide awake. Very worthy of his triple win at IBM. He'll be at SCAM (www.scamcon.org) in two weeks for our convention. Can't wait!

Happy New Year!

It really goes to show you that manipulative magic does not have to be the same old same old. It can and should really start changing and trancend what people have come to see and view manipulative magic as. Too many manipulators can not see outside of the box and tend to look inwards at magic to find their ideas instead of looking outwards to create something totally new and different.

Matt: You saw some great creativity didn't you? That is what is so refreshing with what Arthur is doing with manipulative magic. He is taking it outside of the norm and it suddenly becomes new and refreshing.

At the S.C.A.M. convention, Arthur showed what a professional does when things go wrong also. During the Saturday night gala, Arthur's music died at about the mid-point in his act and phased him for about half a nano-second, the act finished (silent) to a rousing applause.

Cheers! Smile

Trace is a terrific thinker. As a member of the group that call themselves The Doppler Effect, his essays appear in David London's quarterly magazine "Beyond the Smoke & Mirrors." Very creative and original stuff!
