I'm trying to burn my promo DVD but the DVD software is playing up and the sound ends up out of sync. Can anyone suggest a good affordable program to create DVDs?

I use Pinnacle Studio. It's available in the states for about $100. I'm not sure what it would be in Aussie.
GREAT program. Robert

How fast is your system? How fast is the hard disk? That's the major problems when it comes to syncing.

I use Pinnacle. Its not that expensive and very easy to use. It has many functions to play around with.

Does it play in sync in your computer and then out of sync once burned? This might be a problem with sampling rate. The problem is that many cameras record to a default 44.1 kHz bit rate. Change the sample rate to 48 kHz if you're recording miniDV. And record at SP, not EP.
Another major problem with syncing is many lower-end programs just can't do it. They're getting better, but throw it something longer than 10 minutes and you'll notice a several-frame lag. I haven't used Pinnacle (DVD Studio here), so I can't comment. Finally, check your capture card (if not miniDV). Lower-end cards cannot handle the sheer volume of data. Canopus has a nice capture card that uses Firewire to capture S-video signal. It also "locks" the audio/video together. Hope this helps. Scott |

Roxio is template based isn't it?
With DVD Lab Pro you will be able to create any menu you want and can have motion menus, image menus and menus with sound. You can also customize the menu so it can have the moving thumbnails as a background and transitions in between menus. Essentially you can create the same quality menu as you would see from a DVD you buy in the shop. Also once you get to know the program better you'll be able to add subtitles, Background sound and photo slides plus up to, I think, 99 different menus. The learning curve is fantastic. Now with the menus you can have the first menu and it will branch off to corporate or kids. When they click on kids it can have a short video intro and then go to another menu in which you break your kids' video into several parts. The intro video is not availble on the Roxio. |

The cost of DVDs has come down so much that you can literally have one promo video for each genre of client. While it would be best to focus on one type of client, the reality is that many magicians perform both birthday shows and 'country club' shows (heck, many times THOSE are both the same show!). But the point is that just because you CAN put both videos on your DVD doesn't mean you SHOULD. Regarding your problem with the audio, have you tried any of the other software packages mentioned by the guys above? Some are pretty good. It's amazing what some of the cheaper programs can do these days. If you change software and it still does it, chances are, unfortunately, it may be your hardware. Video requires a hard drive that spins at 7200 rpm. Also, burn your DVD at single speed instead of 4x or 8x. That <might> help. Hope this and the other posters' comments help! Cheers, Scott |

I used to get the same problem with the sound as you. Then I started to use Nero burning. Apparently Nero burns the DVD in 2 runs ensuring the sound matched the pictures. It can be found at Nero.com
