I thought the gang here would find this funny. I was replying to a client on something else and this came up:
I was reading your email again and I remembered a really funny story. A friend of mine was doing the linking rings and just like you one guy who had a single ring to examine threw it onto the floor 'hard'. Well, as luck would have it the ring BROKE at the weld!!! The guy grabs it up and shows it to the audience saying, see, it's got a break in it! My friend said, ok, just get rid of that one...he then finished the routine using the other 7 rings, etc. Later we just rolled with laughter. I mean, what are you going to do? This is along the same lines: The Dutch magician used to do a totally hysterical linking ring routine in which he would hand out a single to an audience member and when he came to get it back it was all bent out of shape. The audience plant of course just switching the rings. It was very funny non-the-less. Another friend of mine was doing a show and had gotten to the linking rings. The set he had was about the cheapest that could be bought at that time. Very thin stock on the metal. He hands out the rings and one of the guys that gets a ring is big. Really, really big. And, strong. He literally bends the ring all out of shape trying to get it to 'open'. My bud gets it back and withoug missing a beat links it to the key and goes on the finish the show. Again, at the next IBM Ring meeting we just rolled on the ground. I think I pulled a muscle in my side I laughed so much. As a side note, my friend kept the bent ring in the show for years! Best, Brad Burt
