Meir Yedid says he'd do "NOW-U-C-IT, NOW-U-DON'T" (Jeff Stewart coin effect"). Maybe that's to sell the trick though;-)
I like the classic card transpo ( in their hands ).

I'd simply hand them my business card. Nothing says magician like a business card with your name on it followed by the word Magician.

I go straight to what people are familiar and passionate about... money!
I like to borrow a coin because "they" always think mine are gimmicked. WITH THAT!!! -I have two questions; Who planted that seed in "their" mind and why do they usually reply with, "Will I get it back?"
POOF!

I have never understood these threads. They smack of misplaced priorities and semantic arguments. If you have to "prove" you are a magician, something is drasticly wrong. First off, as seems to have been mentioned, why would anyone argue with you about stating you are a magician? Why do you care if someone believes you are a magician or not? Why do you feel performing one effect somehow acomplishes this bizare requirement better than another? What precisely do you think it is that makes a magician a magician? Again, titles are meaningless. They are the very very very begining of a much longer conversation in which you either do, or do not back up the claim made by the aforementioned title. They either believe you are a magician or not. They will wait around to see or not, and then they will change their mind, or not. To try to boil this experience down to one moment is pointless.

If it's a kid, I pull a twenty dollar gold piece out of his or her ear. I then explain to them that it is worth about $600.00, and how much that will buy. Next, I place it into their father's jacket pocket and explain that if they touch it before they get home, it will change into a pebble.
Works every time.

Hopefully you've done enough to let 'word of mouth' do that for you. Positive word of mouth carries a weight in the tonage range.
