I was looking through this book last night and must say it is loaded with some real gems. At this time I do not have any favorites but was trying to find some specifically that anyone else thought were excellent effects..

I absolutely love this book!! In all the years since I first bought it I am so surprised that it has not received more acclaim or gotten more attention. There are so many great effects in this book, but the one I have the most immediate love for is the very first effect in the book, "The Card Between." I think the strength of its connection with me is based on the fact that it is (obviously) the first effect I learned from the book, which quickly convinced me that I had purchased something special. I also had the opportunity, in my early teens, to perform this effect for Harry Lorayne, David Roth, Looy Simonoff and Sam Schwarz in one sitting in a Café in New York, and then Dai Vernon, after lunch one day at the Magic Castle.
Rennie, Thanks for the reminder. I'm pulling this one back off the shelf tonight. :) |

I find it fascinating that in the obsession for "what's new" that we overlook the older gems.

Well I checked out Timed Turnover and Card Between, both very easy, yet really a couple of great tricks, thanks Van and Magiguy. Now I will check out Zen's Card and Envelopes as John suggest's. Actually the more I look through this book I keep finding myself making notes to check others out. This is really a great book.I actually also noted I have two editions, not sure if I want to sell one though...well I think I will join magiguy and check more out tonight.
Rennie P.S - Forgot to mention about Van's suggestion, that turnover move is really easy to perform and could be used in other situtations, check it out, the 1st trick in the book.

Terry,
I checked out and really liked, Coincidence? No. Perversion? Yes. I was sure impressed at how you can take a marketed effect and build your own routine around it like that. Also liked Future Deck. I did not check out the others yet, but you know I will... Rennie

I agree. Great book. The Zen's routine is "worth the price of the book."

Don't remember the name of the routine now, but there is a blindfold routine with cards that can be done genuinely blindfolded. Would be impressive enough done without a blindfold. Absolute gem.
Also take a look at "Hornswoggled Again" which is an incredibly entertaining 5-6 minutes to carry in your wallet. |

I picked this up specifically to see what all the fuss is about with the Zen Cards Across, and I have to say I've enjoyed the book a bit. It's interesting, because sometimes when people complain about how modern DVDs or books are just rehashes of old material, this is actually one of those kinds of books that gets that sort of treatment. I counted one Jay Sankey idea, one item in Easy to Master Money Miracles, some stuff that made it onto a Dan Harlan video, a revelation that made it onto Daryl's Revelations DVD (in a slightly altered form), and I believe even one noted card expert bestowed his name upon a force not realizing that Milbourne Christopher beat him to the principle a long time ago. And that's just off the top of my head, as I'm sure there are more...
That's not a knock against all of those guys, as some of them were very clear about republishing stuff. It was just eye-opening to me.

This book was recently review in Magic magazine. It's part of the series of reviews they've been doing on older books that many may not be aware of. It of course got the same response as you're reading here.
Great material!

If it's ok to ask, what other books were featured in the series of reviews?

I find it interesting that no one has mentioned the one effect that is worth the price of the 'MY BEST' book!
Look up "DICK TRACY CARD TRICK" it will blow people away! Learn it, you will not be sorry! |
