Hi all,
I need to replace the plastic on the front of the drawing board and whilst axtell charges on $10 for a replacement, it was almost $40 for Postage??!?! Any suggestions on where I can find similar plastic. |

Nicolas....sorry for what postage costs these days. Ask our Customer Service to quote it to you by EMS (Express Mail Service).... email is order@axtell.com
or see if you can get the plastic locally. Here are the specs... 14x17" .060" thick High Polished Lexan (Polycarbonate) clear. Best to you! Ax

Hi Steve,
I hope you don't mind if I ask where to look for the plastic cover for the boards. I actually ordered 3 pcs from you years ago and have used it all already...I was planning to order 2 pcs from you til I saw this topic... I have both the Magic drawing board and the special FX drawing board... Anyway, do I go to a Bookstore? or any kind of specialty shops like medical supplies or maybe art supplies? Thanks Wanlu

Try looking for a plastics shop that sells sheets of different plastics (do they have 'the yellow pages' in phillipines? If so, look under plastics. Call ahead and ask if they carry .060" thick High Polished Lexan (Polycarbonate) clear. Get them to cut it to the right size. easy.

I wanted to replace my plastic on the Drawing Board so I went to the framing shop and had them install non glare glass. It fit into the frame fine as Axtell does use a metal picture frame. The non glare is nicer than the shinny plastic that was giving me reflection from the lights. Of course you have to be careful not to break the glass, but if you're careful, as you should be with all your props, you should be OK. I cut the middle shelf of my Lefler case shorter from front to back so that the Board can sit at the bottom and lean up against the shelf. I find that's an excellent way to go. How do others carry/ pack theirs? I did have to add wooden rails for the shelf to sit on, as it was always falling off those little pins. Poor design but then again I've made several upgrades to my case. It's my father's carpentry skills and design ideas that made it all work, but now with him gone, I'll be on my own in the workshop.
As for the Remote Board, I did see Steve Axtell perform it live a few years ago at Kidabra when it first came out. It looked great, but as many have noted it really is an expensive feature that only marginally improves the routine. Kids are concentrating on the picture talking and the comedy in the routine more than they are worried about how it's done. As was said earlier, we need to focus on the entertainment more than the trick. Great tricksters will come and go, but the true entertainers will be remembered. Look at Edger Bergman, a great entertainer but still moved his lips. We don't remember all the technically perfect vents, we remember the personality of Charlie McCarthy. If you have the extra grand, go ahead, you won't regret it, but to all the rest of us don't waste too much time salivating over the minor advantage and concentrate on the great routines and entertaining the audiences. That's what leads to repeat bookings and a sucessful career! P.S. I love the new Axtrax CDs that are out now, so I'll soon be ordering several more to work on with the Board and the Axtell puppets. What a god send for non vents like me! It all comes back to the entertainment more than me lamenting over not having the ability/ desire to be a vent. The kids don't care who makes the voices, just that they have something funny to say. Many clients have told me that I am the best vent they've ever seen: They didn't even see my lips move! Thanks Axtell for making it all so within easy grasp do do many great routines.

I agree that the non-glare glass solution is a good one, but we cannot sell it or recommend it because it could break around the kids if you dropped it. Also shipping it would be a nightmare for us. There are some non-glare plastics but they do not erase very well, so we do not use them (the surface is pourous to make it non-glare)
Yes plastic shops are the place to find the plastic if you don't want to order from us. Take your marker to the shop and make sure it erases before you buy it. Ax

I've had much fun with my Axtell Drawing Board, but needed to replace the plastic. Can that be correct to charge $7 shipping and handling for a $10 item?
Where else can I get this non glare plastic? |

Itsmagic.... nothing we can do with the shipping cost, sorry. We have to pack it into a box that will fit it and protect it, and that's what UPS charges to deliver it. We cannot roll the plastic into a tube or you would not be able to lay it flat.
You might try going to your local plastics shop and asking them to price the following: Clear Lexan or Polycarbonate (high polished on one side) cut 14" x 17" .030 thickness If you can get that custom cut for less than our $10 plus $7 shipping (and it erases well with the Expo low odor markers, make sure you test it first) then you found a great deal. Hope that helps. Ax

I bought replacement plastic and paper with grid from Ax before...my board seemed brand new again...
Im planning to buy a set of plastic and paper again this time for my remote board...and I would rather get it directly from Ax to make sure I have the correct type of plastic. To make the shipping charges worth it... maybe we can buy sets...2 paper with grid and 2 plastic plus a couple of those Expo Markers BTW, Steve...do you also sell the easel for the Board?
