I have a cool little CD with 54 Blackstone the Magic Detective episodes. At the end of each radio show he reveals how a magic trick works. Sometimes it was the one used in the show. Sometimes not. Was this exposure? What did the other magicians at that time feel about it?
Thanks Dave

What were some of the effects? Classics or classic give aways?

How do you differentiate the two?

Almost anything Blackstone did on his show == classic.
the 21 card trick, the vanishing Ace, the broken and restored match (or toothpick), the ashes on the arm == classic giveaways. In reply to how magicians reacted to this, it was divided. Many amateurs went ballistic. The pro's knew that nothing bad would come of it. The ads for Camel cigarettes were far more damaging. They ran in the Sunday comics.

But Bill, there's a big difference between teaching kids magic and teaching kids to smoke; Smoking is cool.

It was back then, that's for sure.

Gentlemen,
There you go bashing us marketing types again. When I was working on a PhD. at the University of Arkansas we were so proud of the award won for marketing the Ford Pinto. However, then we kicked ourselves in the rear for not coming out with the "Pinto Fireproof Suit" for the drivers. Missed opportunities abound! Could I interest you in a Perrier Lite? Of course there is a slight extra charge. You're getting less. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
