Just wondering why all ebay links get removed as I cant see anything in the rules. Im sure you have reasons, but cant think of any that are logical.

I can understand if someone says 'i have this for sale, click here' but what if someone sees something and wants advice on the effect, it's no different to providing links to hocus-pocus, hanklees or any other site.

If I were to open a ebay shop, would this be allowed in my signature, as in reality, this would be no different all the websites others put in theirs.

Many thanks

Darius

Darius,

It is in the rules:

No matter what category is used (Dvds, books, etc), absolutely No posts advertising items (whether with or without links) to auction sites such as Ebay, Magic Auction, etc will be allowed. Members looking for items on auction sites should pay those sites a visit. Remember also that the trading area is a benefit of Café membership and is NOT to be used to post items that friends, acquaintances or relatives may have for sale or trade. Posts that violate this rule will be removed. No exceptions!.

I hope that answers your question.

Darius, the rules for Ebay are in the rules and etiquette forum but here's an excerpt.

Ebay consists of temporary postings. Providing links to them eventually ends up with the Café having multiple dead links and we simply don't have the manpower or time to continually review for valid links. The Café is not an auction site and as the rules state, members wishing to deal in auctions should go to them directly.

Putting the Ebay link in your signature would also not be allowed for the same reason. There is a difference in linking to a dealer site and linking to Ebay. Dealers are pretty permanent while Ebay changes daily. If you were to put an ebay or magic auction link in your signature, we would remove it for that reason.

There is also a difference between posting a linking and simply mentioning Ebay. If your post said something like, "this item is available on Ebay", that would be fine. Members could go to Ebay and do a search. Providing a link would violate the rules and could end up with a dead link.
