For what it's worth, our Comcast cable broadband internet deal came with a small amount of free webspace, so I used MS FrontPage to create the following website to direct potential patrons to:

I was also lucky enough to impress our local TV station with it, to the effect that they asked if they could do a short news feature on me and my magic (like they needed to ask!). Naturally, I videoed the broadcast and figured out, by then recording it onto our Sony digital camcorder, I was able to download it as an MPEG file onto the PC and then put it on my website.

Owing to the limited webspace, I can only get a couple of short clips on there, so there's just the introduction and some footage of me bending a fork (thank you, Banachek!).

It's not the greatest site in the world, but not bad for "free", I like to think!

Nice site! At the risk of changing the topic to another forum, how did you get KGUN-9 tv to notice your site and get a story?

You created a nice page and if you can do that with one page, consider getting your own domain name like ColinsMagic.com and hosting more pages using your own domain name.

It is difficult to remember a comcast address like yours.

Good tip. Here's another!

Check the "Announcements (Please Read)" section and read the first "sticky post" at the top.

It sounds like a great hosting deal!

Thanks, guys!

I could indeed do with a simple domain name - I've been holding off doing that, as I know such things used to be relatively expensive, although the "Announcements" post mentioned sounds interesting, hmmm...

In answer to your question, Timothy, I simply went to the TV station's website and e-mailed one of the production team with a link to my website. Of course, I was over the moon when they asked if they "could possibly do a feature" on my magic, like they needed to ask! I don't know how difficult it is generally, whether I was just lucky, happened to hit it right that day. The guy at KGUN-9 said they're always looking for stories like that to fill up their local feature slot on the weeknight news. If you're so inclined, I would certainly recommend giving that approach a try with your own local TV stations.

Excellent Colin!

I have a website in progress stored locally on my machine polishing it, and will go live with it in a month or two.

I will archive your tip and make it magically happen then.

Thanks!

Thanks Timothy - let me know the URL when your site goes live!

Best of luck!
