Has anyone out there seen a "Signed Bill to Sealed Sugar Packet"? I heard that its out there somewhere. I was told that the gimmick is similar to that used for "Coin to Ball of Wool" or "Firetrap".

I have been told Michael Forbes has a signed bill to sugar packet. The bill is really inside the packet, the spectator can open it. It is not published though.

I have "Fire trap," sometimes called "Trapped." I don't know about the new methods, but I can easily imagine that this gimmick would work quite well with a sugar packet.

I think Scotty York also has a version he used behind the bar. It took more setup than most people care to do, but in his situation it worked perfectly. In Scotty's version the spectator had a free choice of sugar packets.

Thanks everyone for the imput. Yes, I believe it was Michael Forbes who does signed bill to sealed sugar packet. I suppose something close to the gimmick that "Fire Trap" uses would work. Is there something out there that would work. I have "Fire Trap" and the gimmick won't work without it being completely remade. The bill would have to be folded pretty exact as the size of the sugar packet is pretty small. Then the gimmick would have to be made that would allow a precisely folded bill to slide throught the gimmick. I suppose it could work. What do you guys think?

Instead of signed, how about tearing the bill in half and just using half the bill in the packet? Then, instead of signing they match up serial numbers.

Cyril does an awesome "torn cornered" bill to sealed gum package. A very clever routine, with the torn piece being restored at the end.

Let me remove all speculation from this thread:

Michael Forbes DOES have a signed bill to sugar packet effect, which he has performed for years and which is a true reputation-maker. Just ask some of the magicians he fried with it at Fechter's or the Magic Castle. Better still, ask some of Michael's corporate and celebrity clients around the world who have booked him over other magicians specifically to see this exclusive effect.

As Michael's lawyer, I can confirm that Michael holds a copyright on the effect as he performs it and it is also a protected trade secret pursuant to the Uniform Trade Secrets Act. I can also advise, however, that Michael has been toying with the idea of releasing this on a limited basis. When it happens, it won't be inexpensive and it likely WILL require signing a confidentiality/license agreement similar to the Fitch-Kohler Holdout agreement -- which should give you an idea about just how good his routine is.

Because you could

"tear the bill in half and just using half the bill in the packet? Then, instead of signing they match up serial numbers"

. . . OR . . .

Just have it signed.

Sounds a LOT simpler and more straight forward. Also, FAR more visual and instant when the bill is opened then waiting untill they check numbers and tears. A signature is recognized instantly.

I won't forget you Robert.

Mr. Cowan knows what he's talking about.

But for those that can't wait, Dean Dill has a signed bill to sugar packet that was in his booklet that came out a few years ago. It is really straight forward and fairly easy.

Dean's booklet "Intimate Miracles" is packed with so many cool ideas it's scary. Plus it comes with a companion video showing the performances. One of my favorite magic purchases.

Another great investment has been the Forbes Porfolio (Michael Forbes' wallet for "card to wallet"). I'd love to see MF's bill to sugar packet routine in action.

I'm no lawyer, but to "copyright" anything all you need to do is write it down (in this instance, a routine or method). At that point you are protected by copyright laws. If you want to point out the obvious, you can put the little c with a circle around it and the year.

David Ben has an excellent version which is based on some Bertram ideas. Worth a look.

It's funny because come on...it's a close up magic trick. I like where he also states "When it happens, it won't be inexpensive and it likely WILL require signing a confidentiality/license agreement similar to the Fitch-Kohler Holdout agreement -- which should give you an idea about just how good his routine is." So obviously, if a trick doesn't cost a boatload of money and the creator has his lawyer posting on magic forums and you have to sign a confidentiality agreement, then it can't possibly be as good. Think about how many fantastic tricks are out there. But you know...I just HAVE to have the one where a bill goes to an impossible place that costs a ton of money and requires lawyers on retainer. lol
