Hi guys.
I know we don't reveal secrets here but in the movie "Shade" on the first 2 minutes there is sort of a promo of some moves and one of them is to change one card for another while apperntly flip it over.I have many videos of gambling but I have never found an explanation to theose moves. Where can I find my answer? Have fun ROi |

Thnak.
My mistake-Not the sanp change but the change as you turn over the card. I have never seen it on print. Like a real move from the card table. I know the snap change-great move by the way.. Have fun ROi |

I belive you're talking about the MacMillan change, which is expertly done by Jason England. He and R. Paul Wilson served as technical consultants for the film and released a DVD of some of those moves. I picked up one last year at WMS. I believe it was in very limited numbers but try checking with one of them. I know Jason is a member of the Café.

I think you are referring to Jason Englands execution of the MacMillan Switch . I think this is written up in some obscure pamphlet or book on the gamblers palm but an easy source to find this move is THE UNREAL WORK DVD by Paul Wilson and Jason England .

That was Jason England. He starts with a d**ble l**t (that's Café-speak for a double lift). The rest is acting. Other folks who are expert at this gambling technique are Sal Piacente and Mook.

I may be wrong, but I believe that Lee Asher was one of the consultants on this film, as well. He shows a clip and makes reference to this on his web site.

There are of course many more good moves in this great movie.

Speaking of the MacMillan change, I remember seeing Jason England say that the move wasn't so practical for most magicians. Does anybody know why he feels that way? When I saw "The Unreal Work" a long time ago, the move seemed to be almost entirely invisible, and the set-up wasn't all that different from many a common magic sleight. Has anybody learned this move and used it in the course of a magical effect? How does it play?

I think it's not very practical because it would be hard to clean up without looking shady (no pun intended).

It's the MacMillan Switch - done quite nicely by Jason England. It is in print, but a bit hard to find. But it's out there. Just have to look.

Well there you go, I think he would know for sure. I totally forgot Damien was a member. How you doing?

I believe the reason Jason feels as such is because the MacMillan switch is a much. I can't think of the last time I was performing and thought to myself, "You know Triumph would be so much more effective if I used a muck instead of that false shuffle." I came up with a use for it in magic, but I doubt I'll ever be technically skilled enough to use it in performance.

Well, since we determined that this is the MacMillian switch, I'd like to take advantage of this thread and ask about another move, if I may.
There is a move that Paul Wilson does (I believe it's Paul) where a five card hand is changed to a Royal Flush by rubbing the thumb over the cards. If you've seen the film I'm sure know which move I'm talking about. What is the name of this move? Is this shown on the "Unreal Work" DVD? I saw a move on there called "Thumb Picking" is that it by chance? Thanks, Vandy

^ No probs! On another web site R. Paul Wilson wrote: "Incidentally - the ZAP change IS indeed Bob Koch's Zapped. Before shooting the opening titles, however, I was not sure we would get the gaffed cards in time so I developed an easier method that looks almost exactly the same (and has many powerful variations) but ends with examinable cards. I have been improving on this for many months and the final version will appear soon (titled "FAN 2-C")."... You have the link to FAN 2-C in the previous post.
I recently watched a video of another member here (BalukMagic) performing the same move on his web site http://www.balukmagic.com/video.html

Vandy Grift,
You can find that move in George Joseph's manuscript on hand mucking. |

Not sure what Ethan500 is referring to here. Neither the MacMillan Turnover Switch nor Paul Wilson's examinable version of Koch's Zapped is in George Joseph's book.
Just to clarify. Jason
