I'd like to comment eventhough I don't like horror movies. You mentioned 'Ju-on' (The Grudge) and I just found Megumi Okina stars in the movie.
I was visiting at a friend's home when they were viewing this. That was a very disturbing, spine-chilling, creeped out movie! The images still linger in my brain. Really over the top stuff for the hard care Horror fan. I wasn't able to watch but a few moments of that as it scared me badly. This is no 'slice and dice' flick. This is just cruel to the psyche. |

Yeah that's why I love them. They maybe hard to understand plot wise but they are the only true scary movies nowadays.

I have all the Ju-On films. Even before it came out here in the U.S., I watched it with a few friends and they were genuinely shook after watching it. It was different from what you were seeing here in the U.S. at the time. Anyway, to answer your question Paisa. I have quite a few asian dvd's and from the ones you listed:
Face is okay. It's not as scary as you think it is. It's about a cop trying to solve a murder. Not sure about Pulse but it's getting a remake here. I heard it should be out soon. BTW, if you've seen a lot of asian horror, you'll see a lot of the long hair and ghostly woman a lot. It all started with the Ring. You've got some good taste in movies though. I liked Old Boy, Audition, and The Eye. Also check out sympathy for lady vengeance. |

Old Boy is not in it though. I had seen The Ring and The Grudge, they are scary to the core!

The original "Dark Water" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0308379/ was really popular (although I didn't really care for it).
One movie I love is "Versus". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0275773/ It has zombies, martial arts, and doesn't take itself seriously(think Evil Dead. I didn't really care for "Infection", It's not horror but "Returner"http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0339579/ was a cool sci-fi movie. "A Tale of Two Sisters"http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365376/ was pretty cool, but a little confusing (If your like me you'll have to watch it twice to figure everything out). I don't think it's ever gotten a U.S. release but if it does I want to see "Battle Royal"http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/ |

The only Japanese movies I have are "the eye" and "A tale of two sisters". I am a huge horror fan and collect the scariest horror movies. Love them.

I watched Battle Royale just a few weeks ago and was TREMENDOUSLY disappointed.
What you want to do is read the original Battle Royale novel (Battle Royale, Volume 1) (624 pages) (translated into English, more than likely) by Kohushun Takami. Not the comic or the graphic novel, but the original written text book. It is fabulous, I couldn't put it down. The plot, motivations, characters are 10x as developed as they are in the movie. http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/15......-1328004 I know you are probably not going to be able to resist watching the movie, even though I've advised you not to, but make sure you read the novel regardless.

Old Boy is excellent although very, very disturbing. A Tale of Two Sisters is also very good but requires multiple viewings to 'get'. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is also interesting. Verus has very funny zombie/ganster/samuri movie but the director made up the story as he went along so it rambles about is rarely scary.
If you enjoy Ringu you might also enjoy One Missed Call which is almost identical to Ringu. People receive a missed call with a time and date of several days in the future. When they listen to the message, they hear the last seconds of their life. Sure enough, several days later, they die. |

I've been watching A Tale of Two Sisters for almost a month now. I'm stuck on scene 5 or so. It seems to drag on, and obviously hasn't grabbed my interest yet. Maybe this weekend I'll plow through the rest of it.
I watched the first DVD of Multiple Personality Detective Psycho recently. http://imdb.com/title/tt0257885/ It was interesting, but I think a lot of the plot details were lost in the translation. I also saw Infernal Affairs recently. Not a horror, but it was a pretty good Hong Kong cops and robbers movie, with a twist. http://imdb.com/title/tt0338564/

I forgot to say, I also watched Battle Royale 2 recently:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0338763/ BR2 was even worse than BR (the movie). Like I said before, READ Battle Royale (the original novel) and leave it at that. :)

Balducci now you have me hesitating. I am horrible at reading. I try to save that for Magic Books. Is it really that good? 600 plus pages!?!

Well, I liked it a lot. I just looked again at my copy of the book. The number of actual printed pages is a little less than 624 ... more like 616. But I see that the print also appears to be double spaced, and it seems to be better laid out than in many paperbacks.
All I can tell you is that it was a pretty engrossing, and quick, read, and I enjoyed it MUCH more than the movie.

OK I'm looking at a few but why are they labeled Vol 1 so forth and so on? I saw the Trailer for this thing and I was in Awe. Not to many trailers can do that to me.

The volumes appear to be "manga" graphic novel adaptations of the original book.
Check out these links: http://www.battleroyalefilm.net/ http://www.battleroyalefilm.net/novel/ http://www.battleroyalefilm.net/manga/ And from the second page linked to above, I found that the first 10 chapters of the novel have actually been made available on-line here: http://geocities.com/madastoads/translation.htm Are you in luck tonight or what? Let me say, BR wasn't a BAD movie, it just wasn't nearly as good as the novel. Think about it, how could they possibly condense a 600+ page novel into a single movie. They had to dumb down the plot, and can a lot of good material.
