In my O'Connell mini-himber I carry a small packet of gaffs (2xblank face; double blank and 2xblank backs) for Dave Campbells "Beyond Belief". In the switch side are five blanks to produce if asked.
The effect, for those interested is: Spectator 'chooses' a card from a regular deck. Magician introduces five blank cards that are 'coated with a magic chemical!' Magi swaps one of the blanks for the 'chosen' card and places the specs card on the small packet of blanks. Magi now shows the blanks to have printed with the same back design. He turns the packet over and shows that they have all printed the same face design (nice to use a court card for this!) Placing the cards alternately face up and face down in a row, the magi then takes back his blank and gives the spectator, his or her regular card. Magi now shows that all cards have returned to blank both sides. A very visual and simple routine. If asked, the switch wallet can then reveal all the blanks - but you gotta be quick about it. |

SUGGESTION - Put your gaffs on top so when face up they are on the bottom of the deck - examiners rarely go through the entire deck Suggestion #2 - ALWAYS keep the jokers in the deck. the examiner will always point these out and miss the real gaffs. When they point to the Jokers you just PO-PO it as they are regular cards Suggestion #3 - Carefully open a deck and keep the cylowrap in tact - wrap the gaff deck - make sure the AD cards and the jokers are in it still - Open the "NEW DECK" - pull out the Jokers and AD CARDS and toss them away in front of the spectators (you would be suprised by the number of people who know that there are always 2 ad cards in every deck) and start using - NO NEED FOR EXAMINATION - ITS A NEW DECK

If you haven't seen Syd Segal's "Gaft Card Magic" you should definitely give it a look see. It takes extremely simple gaffs you probably have laying around and creates miracles.
It's really a fantastic DVD. |
