Kyle -- Lots of great ideas here. Thanks for posting.
I work street festivals and municipal fairs, demonstrating and selling magic tricks. I sell 3-4 different items, including a Svengali Deck, which is my best seller. I agree it needs to be demoed, and when done right it really sells. I started with six items, but found as you noted that offering more tricks just complicates matters, because it just makes more choices for the kids (not to mention increasing the cost of inventory). I also agree with the $10 limit, which is about right for something that's basically an impulse purchase, at least in my situation. I also sell plastic Cups & Balls sets, as well as the Cups & Balls pamphlet from Royal Magic (FUN, Inc.). This is a great demo item & really draws a nice crowd, but has proven to be a slow seller for me. As you note, maybe the kids think it is too complicated or hard to do (which it can be, depending on the routine). On the other hand, the kids who do buy it tend to be very seriously interested in magic, and besides, who knows where it might take them? My sets come packed with a simple non-sleight of hand routine, and I wanted to supplement that with an optional pamphlet that would provide the basis for further study. I looked at several C&B pamphlets and thought the Royal Magic one was the best of the bunch, both in terms of looks and content. The runner-up was Tom Osborne's booklet, "Cups & Balls Magic," which is actually better in some ways, but pretty dated at this point. SETH
