If you could only do one effect for the rest of your life, what would it be & why? What is it about the one you chose That gets the best reaction from spectators?

I have done this trick so much I feel like I have already done it "the rest of my life". It just gets the best audience reaction EVERYTIME! You always hear a gasp or a "Wow" from several audience members. I will never forget the time I performed it in a Tulsa arena of 15,000 people....what a rush to hear that many people "WOW" at once! I never get tired of this very strong effect. I also like the fact that I can do it in the smallest or largest of venues. There is nothing better than the audience seeing and hearing the paper rip. Also, using the town's paper they know it is real and it primes their psychology for an even more believable effect. And yes....I will do this the rest if my life. |

That's a really tough question Ichazod.
For me, at this point in my life, I would have to say "The Bill in lemon". I've used it as a closer for years, and it almost always gets a standing ovation. It's a "classic", and has been proven to stand up to the test of time.

My choice would be the Cups & Balls; the cups represent a palette of magic, an opportunity to show the best that our art has to offer.
My second choice would be the breadcrumb by Lavand; I do not perform it but it is one on my list. Having seen Lavand perform this simplistic piece of art gave me my greatest magical moment, and I’ll never forget my consideration that while watching him perform it, perhaps the Devil himself was sitting before me. Thanks for the forum, I think this site is great! |

I would say it would have to be Matrix. I remember the first time I saw it...It blew me away and to this day it’s still my favorite!

At the risk of being unoriginal, mine is definitely the Chicago Opener.
There are plenty of effects that blew me away when I first saw them, and I have incorporated several into my magic set, but I have never had such consistent reaction to any effect as I have this one! Although it is an opening effect, I have moved it several times, and now I use it in the middle. For me this effect has proven to be so strong that almost any other effect is anticlimatic. Except for maybe "Twins" |

Tough call--depends on the venue. For stand up, Bill in Lemon or linking rings. Card magic, Out of this World. Coin magic, my routine for Flying Eagles. But if I had to choose just one for any and all audiences and venues, I’d have to go with my sponge ball routine. It has NEVER failed to SLAY audiences of any age or size!

It took a while but then the answer fell on me like a ton of bricks. If I could do just one effect for the rest of my life....
I would make appear a system by which magical royalties could be tracked and paid out to original inventors. This system would ensure that those who give selflessly to the art don't finish their last years in relative poverty or leave families to sell of their beloved's life's work for pennies on the dollar to collectors and in auctions. I would hope a side light to this would be the recognition by all magicians of the importance of the creators of our art. Howzat Tom Cutts |

Good question! If I think back over the tricks that have been most important to me over the past 20 years, I’d say spoon-bending, the card under the glass, and my own version of Vernon’s trick that cannot be explained.
These have been the ones that have given me the most mileage; the ones that have done the most for my own growth as a performer; have probably generated the most entertainment, delight, magic and surprise for my audiences. Choose one? Card under glass. One of those tricks that is as much fun to do as it is for those watching, and never, ever, ever fails to get a good, amazed, magical, fun reaction. If there is such a thing as a fail safe trick, this is it. _________________ http://www.ian-rowland.com. The most amazing cards in the world and the famous Levitating Cat.

I Once said that, if I could only do one trick ever again, it would be the Quadro-chick. I have, however, gone for a more magical effect in....... Ambitious Card.
For me it is the best card trick in the world as it is easy to understand; allows the performer to ’jazz’ and can be made as long or as short as required with any number of finales. I should add that I always finish my close-up set with my Card to Box, so I’d have that as my kicker ending to Ambitious Card. Cheers, Jon

I tried and tried but I couldn't think of any possible set of circumstances that would require me to perform just one trick for the rest of my life.
Please enlighten. cheers, Peter Marucci showtimecol@aol.com |

Well, lets see........ how about this; think of yourself as a superhero, the one trick is your super power.
If you had to choose one trick to combat evil & defeat super villians, what would it be? |

I would have to say the Cups & Balls. The oldest magic trick in the world, that has stood the test of time. This has everything. Vanishes, transpositions, transformations, and a trick that can have countless variations to stop you from getting bored.

Well Ichazod, it would have to be Q&A. When you are on, it is the most powerful routine in mentalism. It has everthing you could want, total audience involvment, suprise, excitement and on and on.
In fact, I and my partner will be performing it Feb 23rd and Mar 2nd as part of our two man mentalism show "Professor Krill and Marelli's Mental Wizardy" in the Mercury Cafe's downstairs Theater, Denver CO. Any of the Cafe's members who will be in town should drop in. (I couldn't resist getting in a plug)

For me it would have to be a simple retention vanish applied to any small object. Why? Because that effect always makes them smile!
