Hi everyone.
What is the best close up magic trick for executives? I am an attorney and kind of new to magic (two years now). I was wondering if there is a specific trick that I could perform for my colleagues that would just knock their socks off. What is your favorite? Any suggestions? Art |

Hi,
The Raven is really great and Scotch and Soda for coins. I'm a sales rep and my clients love this and all the variations. |

I second the Raven idea. I love it. Plus it amazes my friends' parents along with my friends. For adults, make a half dollar shrink to a quarter or even a dime in their own hands. Just a thought. Great trick. I would definitely recommend it.

Blank to Printed Business Card?
Torn and Restored Business Card? Flaming and Restored Business Card? I've never heard of these before but I'd imagine someone's already come up with ways to do them using similar playing card principles. I'm an aspiring coin person so I've done the coin production from two cards (business cards instead of, I think, more traditional playing cards). |

I work in the film industry, and I do 2 things all the time that just blow 'em away in offices and board rooms:
1. Crazy Man's Handcuffs (but don't overdo it or they get the move) 2. Making a paper clip or their own key ring move "psychokinetically" in their hand. 3. Predictions on the back of my business card so I can hand it out. Good luck! |

I'm in sales and I've used the Stargazer/CMH, and the blank to printed business card, but the biggest response I got was with a fire wallet that I used to produce my business card.
I'm playing with a routine at the moment to use the mini-briefcase to "appear" several various sized spongeballs and a golf-ball before being able to get my business card out. |

I think the blank to printed business card idea is a very good one.

Steve Dacri & Frank Garcia have the signature wild cards that can be used with a clients/your business card (printed) or even a customer's name. It is well explained an fairly easy to perform with a little practice.

What about the Pothole trick with one of your business cards.

I noticed that there is a product on the market affiliated to the British Magic Circle that is designed entirely for Executive Magic. It comes with a variety of effects, I'm not sure exactly what it includes but it's certainly something to consider.
OK I just found this online it costs around $40 or so and includes Dynamic coins, chinese sticks and melting coins among others. I think you can purchase it here: http://www.hanklee.net |

There is another coin trick called "Lethal Tender" that is good also. The supplied instructions cover a routine utilizing the little wallet it comes with but you can also do a version of it in the spectator's hand that is even more powerful. This is a trick requiring none, to minimal sleight of hand depending on which way you perform it. If you'd like more details on the "in the hands" method, send me a PM.
You can do similar transpositions using regular coins if you learn some basic techniques and you can find them in most books or videos having to do with coin magic. I mention "Lethal Tender" just because I think it is a good transposition effect. Good luck GlenD

Any effect using a holdout. First the coins are in your hand, and then they just vanish even after the execs heard them clinking together in your hand.
If anyone sees my sanity, please return it to
me. |

There is a routine called 'Unlikely evidence' by Aaron Smith (see [outdated link], but I'm sure it's available through other dealers) that uses the theme of a court of law.
I haven't seen it done, but I remember the ad.

For sheer quick, clean and knock ‘em out I use a trick that we sell called Two Ones to a Two. The effect is simple, easy and striking: You openly display both sides of two one dollar bills. Fold them, snap! Unfold to show that they have VISIBLY and INSTANTLY changed into a TWO dollar bill. Show both sides of the two and reverse to split the two into two ones. No TTs. No palming.
I used to open my table-to-table work with it as it has that power that projects that YOU know what the heck you are about magically. Very nifty. Best, Brad Burt

Like Wiggy's mentioned, I also think Michael Close's Pothole trick would be a good choice. You can see a demo of it here: http://www.michaelclose.com/tricks/index.html#pothole
This trick would enable you to hand out your business card if you want to, and it's just plain cool. |

I'm an ex-lawyer, but something that's fun and visual is an effect with a credit card called "Credit Card Fraud".
Basically you peel the magnetic strip off someone's credit card; I think there's a demo on Hank Lee - yeah, it's a gimmick, but it's very effective. Next time you're at lunch with a client/colleague and someone puts down a credit card, do a throw vanish as a quickie (and misdirection for the next effect), then do the CCF routine. Definite impact... My wife thought I really ruined her credit card when I did it for her. I also like the blank business card effect, but unfortunately in my world, two-sided business cards are the norm and it just doesn't quite do it for me. Happy New Year! |

This is the first thing I thought about when I read your post.
What about working out The Magician's Insurance Policy effect to be done with some type of appropriate legal document. Steve |

Using the perfect pen *(which looks executive) you could do a multitude of blow over effects. Pen through wad of money, pen thru tie, and pen thru business card. The possibility's are endless.
