I just read a full page advertisement of these DVD's and was wondering if anyone here has seen Mr. Gleason. I have not , nor have I heard of him. One effect listed "signed Card to Sealed Deck" sounds awesome but I was curious on the difficulty level. Sounds like if could be a real killer effect.

I remember Shawn Farquar frying people with his signed card to sealed pack, and I don't think the method for these effects would be difficult, but more time consuming..

In the ad for this DVD set in MAGIC magazine, it claims to have a method to
get into JC Wagner's Super Closer from a freely shuffled deck and no deck switch.
I love JC's Super Closer and would love to be able to get into it without a deck
switch and a full deck stack.

Can anyone comment on whether or not Greg Gleason's method is workable in real-world
conditions? I'd like to know more about this before I shell out $35 for the DVD.

Thanks,
Kevin

Definitely workable in real-world conditions. Keep in mind that some of these effects are better suited for the stage, or parlor shows.

I'd be very glad if someone who owns it could review each routine. Of coiurse, the signed card in sealed deck raises curiosity since we saw Cyril Takayama perform this little miracle somewhere on Youtube Smile

Right, Jonathan P., the Signed Card to Sealed Deck is why I bought the DVDs. It's very "doable" and I would even say that you could change part of the method and make it a parlor effect...possibly even close-up...but it presents well on stage - that's for sure.

Ok folks, I got Volume 1 and am pleased with the DVD. Production is excellent, the tricks are pretty strong, and Greg is an excellent teacher. He provides details where necessary and glosses over the obvious when appropriate (unlike some other videos I have seen).

Also, it's nice to see effects performed in a real-life environment with real spectators rather than the usual recycled cast we all know from a certain company's video catalog.

A nice surprise was his Moneymorphosis routine. It's a clever way to present the classic Bill Switch routine while completely shading the standard method. Very nice. This fooled me badly.

The G card is a great idea that I will definitely play with. I can see how this will enable invisible and almost effortless card controls. This is another great "wow -- why didn't I think of that" type of item. Greg provides several effects that utilize the G Card, but this is really a utility item that can be used in a zillion different ways.

I purchased this item for the "Setup for JC Wagner's Super Closer." I love this effect but I don't tend to carry around extra stacked decks -- hence I rarely perform it. His concept here is to perform a classic Hamman effect as a lead-in to the Super Closer. The Hamman effect enables you to do most of the required setup during the performance of the trick and is covered nicely with the presentation. While Greg's version of the Hamman effect is different than that described in _Secrets of Brother Hamman_, it is still very effective and I think it looks more natural (and is actually a bit easier IMO).

Note that the setup enables you to perform only the second half of JC's Super Closer (e.g. post Ace-production). This is not a bad thing because the routine is cleverly set up so that the Hamman effect logically leads into the second half of the Super Closer. The spectators will see one long powerful effect with an incredible finale. It does not look like two disjointed effects linked together. I think Greg's routine is actually stronger than the original Super Closer. Presentational theme is logical as well. Greg also has a small variation which I really liked that improves the cleanup at the end.

I haven't exposed which Hamman trick is used to lead into and set-up the Super Closer because I want to encourage you to support your fellow magician and purchase the DVD. It's definitely worth the $35 price of admission. In addition, Greg is very friendly and professional;he promptly answered all of my questions via email. He clearly put a lot of work into this product and takes pride in it. Nice to see a high-quality product in this world of instant DVD production.

Highly recommended.

I recently posted my review of Theater Close-Up over on Grey Matters. (It's the same review, with a few minor re-edits, that I posted in this forum.)

Yes, Scott's review is much more detailed than mine -- plus he reviews both volumes. Thanks for your review Scott! It played a major factor in my purchase.

Vol 2 rocks !!! This has a coin routine that is a knuckle buster but worth the work . Greg is great with coins...Its called "Matrix Explosion" The trick on Vol 2 that killed me was the" Signed Card to Sealed Deck". I think a lot of magic that a magician thinks that it seems impossible to a layman isn't really that shocking at all.... This routine is shocking, easy to follow and It plays huge ....it could be presented as a stage trick without a video screen...or as a close up miracle.
These DVDs are shot well and are very valuable .. why .... this guy works in front of live non magician audiences... not lecture tours and magic conventions.. ...and he knows what works and what has entertainment value.... these dvds are a rarity...

I just got the 2 DVD's in and to say that I was pleased with them BOTH would be an understatement. These DVD's really are a must have. These routines are right out Greg's show on the ships. Several of the effects have gone right into my performing sets. His G-Card is a wonderful idea that is simple to use and leaves the tabled deck looking great. Banned in Vegas is an amazing effect that is within the ability of most everyone. I am only scratching the surface of what the material is really like. All of the material is really quite good. I can't think of anything negative to say about any of the effects and that is a rarity in this day and age of DVD's. I highly recommend these DVD's to everyone. You will not be disappointed.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Greg preform on 2 occassions. He is a great entertainer and magician. I was with a number of family members and they were completly impressed.

I have some of Greg's other DVD's and now that I know that he has others such as the ones mentioned on this post, I will definatley get them. I am sure without even seeing them that they are great, as his others were.

BTW, I have one of Greg's DVD's on improving your memory (not a magic trick). He has done some impressive research on the subject and his demonstrations of his skills in this regard, while not magic, are impressive to an audience, as well.

I received the dvds this week and like everyone else loved them. The effects are awesome, many that have basics from past have been modified and improved by Greg, and the instructions are detailed. For most effects, you see Greg perform them live, and thereafter he explains them in detail. I especially like that Greg by example shows how to do the effects to a larger audience. Just listen to the viewers reactions, and you know that it plays well to the lay person. BTW, those were the very reactions to his magic that I witnessed personally when I saw him.

Since so many have already written positive things, I will not reiterate, but wholeheartedly agree. It is only recently that I have desired to do card effects beyond the typical ones that most younger magicians use, and that use an ungaffed deck. This change actually started when I saw Greg's show. He was really so good that it inspired me to change in that regard and learn some more critical card skills. Most of the effects accomplish this goal, and the few that he shows that need some additional materials, are simply carried, procured, and used.
