Sleight of hand to show his pockets empty? In Jay Sankey's words, "Davey can't palm!"

I heard a story once, about the time when a certain famous magician locked himself out of his hotel room in Wilmington, Delaware. The bellboy who let him in, made a comment about how he should've picked the lock, being such a great EA. I also heard that the bellboy received a fist for his trouble.
I should also mention, that I did not personally witness this incident. It's hearsay. I've also heard other similar stories, that suggest this is a behavior pattern.

LOL. He should have told the bell boy that he gets out of stuff, not into stuff. :o)
Nice one David. Wonder if it was Staged or not. I mean, you telling me, you would not recognise David Copperfield while robbing him? That is like Robbing Sean Connery and not knowing it is him? Duh! Regards Wolflock

With his lack of television presence in the last few years, I suspect more people know Blaine and Angel.

The crooks that robbed him were teens. They robbed him right outside the theater also. I'd have to think they knew who it was. The lack of TV presence is interesting. People older than 30 would recognize David Copperfield I would think. But David Blaine has been out of the lime light for a while and Criss Angel has not been in the limelight long enough, in my view. David B. is finally coming out of his shell next week with a special which should prove interesting. Criss has a second season of his show to help continue boosting his image in the eye of the lay public.

Didn't this exact same thing happen to Blackstone, Sr. in about 1943 in NYC - or was it Dante?

It makes a good story, true or not, and has a high plausibility factor.
Most of us who travel for our jobs, have been locked out of hotel rooms. I've found, however, that a tip works a lot better than a fist, when asking a bellboy for something. Courtesy is the best lubricant in social intercourse.

This is the best bad thing happening to a magic celeb since the truck with the tigers was stolen in New York back in the 80's. Remember that one?
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."
