Flip Hallema lectured for us last night in Rochester, NY. (I am one of the two lecture coordinators.) The lecture was excellent and Flip is highly entertaining. Of the many great items he showed us, I was most impressed by his rope work. He showed us three different routines and some rope moves separate from the routines. His work is deceptive, well thought out and entertaining. I sat behind three young men from the local SYM and they were blown away. It was fun to watch their reactions.
I definitely will acquire DVDs of Flip's rope magic. Mark Ross |

I would have loved to have seen Flip's lecture! I have had his rope DVD for a couple of years and overall it is good. I can do without the section on using rope to go with different costumes. Although a couple of folks here at The Café have stated that his ring and rope sequence can be a little confusing, I don't think it is. And I think he makes most of the moves seem quite magical.

I am kind of late learning about Flip Hallema and his rope magic. Anyone have opinions about good/bad etc. of Flips work on his 'Flip's Truly Magical Rope Routine' vs. his newer(?) L&L Best of Flip Vol.3 'Ringmaster in the Ropes'? Is there much carry over/duplicate material? Which is a better resource to start with etc. Thanks in advance for your comments.
Regards, Barrett James

Flip is very creative, funny, and distinctive, but a little too dry for me.

Flip was a big influence on my rope magic when I watched him perform at a Houdini Convention back in the 70's.
He made everything look soooo easy! Andy

I learned Flip's Ring Off Rope routine from his original VHS tapes about 25 years ago. It was the highlight of my street performing act. Great stuff.
