"All the Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas
Layin' in the sun
Talkin' about things
They woulda-coulda-shoulda done . . .
But those Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas
All ran away and hid
From one little did"
-Shel Silverstein

Absolutely. Gotta go after it. Do it. "Only you can make it happen." Got that piece of advice a few years ago and it sums it up for me.

Ahhh . . . . Shel Silverstein. He was the first philosopher I was ever exposed to. *grin* I grew up reading Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, and most importantly, Uncle Shelby's ABZ Book. (An amazingly subversive primer, i.e. "I is for INK. INK is pretty, INK is black. What rhymes with INK? DR_ _ _.")

One must always write of February while weeping."

Oh my... thanks for the memories. What an interesting "children's" author.

I forgot he also wrote that song covered by Mariann Faithful.

He also wrote Johnny Cash’s Grammy winning “A Boy Named Sue” as well as “Cover Of The Rolling Stone” and “Sylvia’s Mother” for Dr Hook and the Medicine show.

Or, as Gwen Stefani sang so eloquently, "Take a chance you stupid ho".

I learned to read from Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss. The ABZ book is great Smile We also had a copy of "Inside Folk Songs" in my house when growing up - what a talent!

Don't forget "The Unicorn" performed by The Irish Rovers.

As far as the poem and magic: Eugene Burger teaches the same thing in his books. It must be a bald thing.

"Inside Folk Songs" had the original recording of "The Unicorn," as well as many other children's classics like "I'm being Eaten By A Boa Constrictor." He also wrote a few songs for Dr. Hook, including their only hit: "Cover of the Rolling Stone," and was also a cartoonist for Playboy.
