Can anyone tell me what they think of the Sankeys Secret Files Vol 1 and 2? I am thinking about them for Christmas.

They are awesome!
I love them, been learning stuff from them since the day they came out...love it! They are tricks that don't require too much crazy sleights but are still killers!

I don't have the tapes, but it seems strange that Jay Sankey seems to always have more "special unreleased" material coming out all of the time.
2 years ago, he had that special, limited edition tape for $75, and volume 2 eventually came out of "special material." He also very recently had some DVD's released from L&L. And so this new series kind of undermines his L&L DVD's. |

The material on these DVDs is unreleased. I have all of his notes, books and videos and the only thing in these DVDs that appeared elswhere was a bill and sugar transpo effect from a set of notes. Since the material on these DVDs isn't anywhere else (ie: the New L&L DVDs) I don't understand why you would say they undermind them. Personally, I have no problem with Jay releasing stuff he's kept to himself. If I can find one trick from ANY book I'll do, it's a good investment. I've been doing his Back In Time for over 8 years and I imagine I'll be doing @&X! the rest of my life. With effects these practical and this strong, I concider it a good investment to continue looking into his stuff. Of course, these aren't the only 2 items of Jays I do. They're just the items that I see myself ALWAYS doing whereas other effects by other magicians will go in and out of my sets.

It's really a timing issue. The L&L DVD series was called the "Very Best of Jay Sankey." And just a short time later, another DVD series comes out called "Secret Files".
The description from Jay's website is: "For years there have been rumors that Jay has been keeping some of his best stuff to himself, and for once the rumors are TRUE!..." I didn't say that the DVDs were NOT worth getting. I just thought it was awkward that his L&L "Very Best" was released, and then more "Best" material would be released in such a short time. |

He says so on the videotape that this stuff might not necesarily be his best stuff but definetly his favorite. As far as I am concerned... Jay Sankey can put however much crap out that he wants and I'll buy it all LOL!

I love these dvd's. His routine chameleon where a spectators selection turns into a matchbook, is brilliant. It's one of the best give aways to a spectator that you can give away. Even if you don't use any of the routines (which I don't know how you wouldn't) the ideas alone are brilliant. And his trick what if is amazing as it answers the question of what if the spectator hadn't chosen that card what if they had chosen the ...
I highly recommend this dvd set. |

I'm doing a show tomorrow and Outsider is going to be my opening card effect. So easy, but it kills.

You really can't go wrong with Sankey's Secret Files. In fact, they are essential for all magic close-up workers and can add wonders to your magic knowledge and repertoire. The stuff in the dvds really kills lay-people. Like cfrancis and mariomagic, I really like Outsider and Chameleon too. My other fav. from the Secret Files are Carbon Paper, Penality Box, What If, and Fedex Change.

Mr. A,
Do a search in this forum. Both Andrew Miller and I reviewed Vol. 1 |

When I first got the set I put in vol. 1 and began watching. The production value was non existent and I shut it off & put it away for a while. I went back a couple of weeks later & forced myself to get through both. The magic is first rate (though not for everyone, but whose is?). If you can look past the really lousy set, you should end up with quite a number of great, original tricks. In addition to those listed above, check out classified. Done properly, it is real magic!

Joe, I know what you meant. I have a difficult time viewing the dvds as the lighting was very poor and the camera was either too far away to capture Jay's moves. I had to rewind many times just to watch and learn the effects. The magic is superb but the production sucks!

Both DVDs have at least 2-3 items that you can start using tomorrow for lay people and just kill! I am not sure why Jay Sankey gets bashed so much on the Café. The magic of his I have purchased has included v-e-r-y f-e-w stinkers. I am with ixnay66, if I can find myself using 1-2 items off a tape or dvd purchase, it was money well spent. I don't think you'll be let down if you purchase one or both of these excellent DVDs.
